Previously even I used to get affected and appalled with the manner in which the Indian production houses treated the historical dramas.
But after watching Korean and Chinese historical dramas which showed even bigger distortions and yet they were accepted coz of they were presented well and were entertaining,I have realised that we shouldn't become so sensitive about stuff like this.
There exists a genre called pseudo historicals. All the current historicals belong to that genre.
This is why I don't mind any distortion as long as they stay true to basic historical essence, theme and high point of the show.
For example in Ashoka's case the high points were the Kalinga War and his Buddhism practices. But CAS omitted that only due to which the post leap CAS was a colossal disaster.
Pre leap CAS had a lot of distortions too but it was awesome till Chanakya's death.
In Porus' case the most crucial point is the Battle of Hydaspes.
As long as they don't mess that up its all right.
Also Porus is not the first historical drama to show distortions and it won't be the last.Today it's Porus tomorrow it will be Samudragupta and day after it will be Krishnadevaraya 😆But this is not gonna stop. The producers need to make money and we need quality entertainment on TV.Everything said and done these historicals/mythos/periodic dramas are an oasis in an age where saas bahu shows are ruling ITV.
So I don't mind any distortion as long as the characters and story is well written, the central theme is properly executed and the entertainment value is intact.😛
