Chapter 10 : A day in the city

Next day Sugni was up early and got ready. Gulabia had got a new dress for her a magenta color salwar with push back bottom and Sugni was ecstatic.

Sugni - Maa this is beautiful thanks a lot... Gulabia smiles...

Sugni hears Vikram car honk and gets nervous. It was one thing working in the haveli but going all alone in the car with him all the way to city was making her nervous all the more.

Gulabia went out to greet him and they spoke for couple of minutes, Vikram refused to come in and Gulabia came to call her. She gave Sugni some money to buy anything she likes and Sugni leaves happily.

Vikram comes out of his car and waits when she comes out. Vikram stares at her she was looking very fresh early in the morning. As she approached him her features became clearer and he stared at her beautiful face. She had applied kajal & lipstick in a way which was not gaudy but enhancing her beauty. She had tied her hair in a braid but loose strands of hair were dangling on her face. She wore matching earrings which were beautiful and her dress was adding to her beauty. Magenta color was looking extremely good on her fair complexion and Vikram made a mental note to buy her the same color cloth in future. He would have stood like that forever if they were not getting late.

Sugni came and wished him and her voice was musical.

Vikram - Hi Sugni you are looking very beautiful. (Vikram couldn't stop himself from saying this)

Sugni blushes and Vikram curbs the urge to grab her by waist and take her in his arms.

Vikram - come let's leave.

Sugni waves at Gulabia and sits in the car next to him. Vikram closes the window and turns on the A/c. He fastens the seat belts and asks Sugni to do the same. She gives him a puzzled look and Vikram shows her his belt. Sugni tries to fasten it but fails. Vikram seeing her struggle reaches for the belt when their hands touch. Both feel jolted at each other's touch Vikram locks the seat belt when his hand touches the side of her waist. He takes back his hand in a flash but Sugni feels strange sensation pass through her body.

Vikram starts the car and they head towards the highway. Vikram was driving without looking at her even once while Sugni wondered why he is so serious. She tried to strike a conversation saying sir which client are we meeting today?

Vikram looks at her and says client oh yes we are meeting Mr. Shekhawat he buys our suiting and shirting so we have to crack deal with him.

Sugni doesn't know how to react and continues to look through the window. She wanted to lower the window glass but was scared to ask Vikram. They were now out of Ramnagar and Sugni was eagerly looking around. Sensing her wish Vikram lowered the window panes. He kept looking at her and observing her innocence. She seemed to be lost looking out of window as if she was a kid on a first time excursion.

Vikram - Have you never been out of Ramnagar

Sugni- Only couple of times sir to the next village Dharampur for fairs.

Vikram - I am glad you will be making your first visit to city with me

Sugni smiles and says - yes sir all thanks to you.

Vikram - we will have breakfast shortly there's a good hotel nearby.

They continue the journey and reach the hotel in ten minutes. It was an outdoor hotel and Vikram leads Sugni to an empty table when a waiter gives them menu card.

Vikram - So what will you have

Sugni looks at the menu and decides to order something which is of less price. Vikram sensing her thoughts orders on her behalf.

Sugni - Sir its too expensive

Vikram glares at her and says - I am the boss here .

Sugni gets serious when Vikram smiles and says - leave all your inhibitions aside and enjoy today Sugni. Its your first day out of town so freak out.

Sugni smiles at him when Vikram takes out his digital camera.

Vikram - I love photography whenever I go out I carry this with me you never know when you come across a good scene to catch it in a frame. Sugni looks intently at the camera while Vikram teaches her how to operate it. They have breakfast and Sugni waits while Vikram pays the bill. Sugni looks around, the hotel was on a highway amidst a vast land meant for cultivation. The scenic beauty was great with hills far behind and the hotel was surrounded by rose gardens. She started admiring the flowers and touching them smelling them.

Vikram who came out saw her admiring the scenes and couldn't resist taking a few snaps of her. She was looking great with early morning sun rays falling on her face. She was having difficulty managing her Dupatta which kept flying due to wind. Vikram took many snaps without her knowledge and slowly came and stood behind her.

A few seconds later Sugni turned and was shocked to find Vikram at such close proximity and she slipped back in shock. Vikram caught her by her waist and steadied her.

Vikram - I am sorry if I scared you

Sugni nervously - Its ok sir

Vikram was still holding her and Sugni too held onto him. They stared at each other. Vikram was wearing goggles so she couldn't read his eyes but Vikram was lost looking at her.A strand of hair was on her face and involuntarily his hand moved to her face and he pushed the hair behind her ears. Her skin was as smooth as silk and her large eyes were staring shyly at him there was a world of innocence in those eyes like that of a child. He wanted to explore more but his senses stopped him and he released her from his embrace.

Vikram - shall we leave Sugni nodded and followed him. She was finding it extremely hard to be composed around him and worried how she can spend the rest of the day , his presence around her was most comforting and his touch was rising so many sweet feelings in her she was finding it hard to control. She was shocked to know that she liked being close to him he touching her holding her. She decided to get a grip on herself and slowly turned to look at him.

Vikram was concentrating on the road ahead while Sugni found herself again lost looking at him. One thing was evident to her she was developing strong unknown feelings towards Vikram and this was dangerous. She was nothing in front of him and he probably didn't care for her. True he was being very good to her but that doesn't mean he should be interested in her. He was a gentleman who respected women and as a boss he was just making sure his employees were happy.

She decided to put aside her thoughts and not draw too many meanings for his actions. She wanted to enjoy the day and her visit to city so for the moment she pushed off all the unnecessary thoughts.

They reached the client place and Vikram introduced her to Mr.Shekhawat. Sugni listened while the 2 men discussed business. She observed how Vikram easily transformed into a businessman and conducted the affairs so easily, she admired his way of communication confidence and desired to possess similar qualities. He was wearing a blue shirt and a navy color dark blazer and a matching pant. He was looking extremely handsome and adding to that was his very fair complexion. She thought any women would go weak on her knees seeing him. He was close to 6 feet while she stood just over 5.4 feet. The difference in their height made it all the more attractive whenever she was close to him and he looked down at her. She continued to gaze at him when Vikram suddenly turned and caught her staring at him. Sugni felt caught in her act and turned away while Vikram resumed his discussion. The meeting finally got over in 30 minutes and they came out.

Vikram - so what next??

Sugni looks in confusion when Vikram says - come on its your first day in city so I am at your service. Tell me what how you want to spend it.

Sugni smiles seeing him bow at her & says - Sir but I dont know any place here

Vikram - No problem I will be your guide for today. We will start with buying you clothes first

Sugni - clothes? no sir I have many

Vikram - shhh you have to buy and that's it

Sugni sadly - I cant afford sir

Vikram - You need not pay, we have a policy in our company Sugni we give our employees joining bonus of Rs. 20000 when they join us so that they can spend the money to buy formal clothes to be presentable in office. I know you may be having few clothes but now you will be my assistant attending various client meetings with me so I want to you to be well dressed.

Sugni seemed to understand what he was saying and agreed with him. Vikram took her to a boutique shop where his sister would often buy clothes. Vikram instructs one of the sales girls to help Sugni choose some dresses while Sugni goes to trial room Vikram awaits.

Sugni tries a red color anarkali dress and looks at herself in the reflection. The dress was looking extremely beautiful... she looks at price tag which says 1500 and gets shocked.

Sales girl - Madam you are looking fabulous if you don't mind can I change your hairstyle a bit.

Sugni nods while the girl loosens her hair and puts a small pin and says - there you are looking like a doll... do show to your fianc he will be happy.

Sugni - Oh no he is not my fianc but my boss

Sales girl - sorry madam but why don't you show him

Sugni looks at herself hesitantly and finally steps out of trial room. Vikram turns around hearing her and gets quite a pleasant surprise.

Sugni was looking like a dream in red color , her hair was differently made and the outfit hugged her body in a perfect way. Vikram could not take his eyes off her and came slowly towards her .

Sugni did not know how to react. Vikram slowly touched her hair which had fallen on her face and set them aside. They both turned and saw their reflections in the mirror. They admired the other silently when the sales girl's voice broke their thoughts

Sales girl – She is looking great isn't it sir?

Vikram yes she is beautiful

Sales girl - would you like to try some more madam.

Sugni - No this one dress is enough .

Vikram - No it is not enough we need atleast 3 more such dresses and 5 more simpler ones.

Sugni tries to protest but Vikram glares at her. For next half an hour they select various clothes and come out loaded with the purchases.

Sugni - Sir I don't know what to say …you have done so much for me in the past 1 week, you saved me from digvijay, gave me a job such good salary and today all this ...I feel different... I dont think I deserve all this ... Vikram turns to her but they were on the road. He beckons her to get in the car.

Once inside Vikram takes her hand in his and says - Sugni don't think even for a moment that I am doing something out of the way or trying to please you. I needed a secretary and you were the right fit so I hired you. If I saved your life then you also saved my life at the. cliff. Coming to buying you clothes I have already explained you the reason behind it so please put your mind to rest and relax.

Sugni - can I say something sir

Vikram - sure

Sugni - you are the best thing to have happened to me sir... if u had not come to Rampur for reopening the factory then I would never have had all this in my life. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Vikram looks into her eyes and he could very well read that she meant it. A tear falls from her eyes and Vikram catches it.

Vikram - I hope i will never see another tear from your eyes sugni... I know you have had a hard life till now but from now on it will change... sugni smiles at him & looks at him with respect, Vikram knew exactly that moment that this one relationship in his life was different, he realized he cannot see Sugni in pain no matter what and he will always be with her to protect her keep her happy but how and when he didn't know.

They went to a good hotel for lunch where Sugni got to taste different dishes… she could not recollect when she felt so happier, Vikram had been an excellent companion or guide as he called himself. It was time to head back to Rampur but Vikram stopped at a bank for a moment.

Sugni offered to wait outside when she was strolling nearby she saw a T-Shirt which she thought of buying for Vikram. She went inside the shop and bought the Shirt which was a black and white checkered shirt, she didn't know if Vikram would approve but she felt he would look handsome in it & the shopkeeper offered to gift wrap it for her. Sugni left the shop happily and planned to give the Shirt to him on the factory re-opening day.

Vikram was waiting for her when she made an excuse saying she was just strolling nearby. Together they headed back to Rampur and he dropped her home by 7pm.

Sugni thanked him for a wonderful day while Vikram too reciprocated the same & she went home happily to show Gulabia her new collections.
