Off late we are seeing the transformed Abeer and falling for him more and more. Who would not fall for such a sanskaari damaad, cute charmer and incorrigible flirt? Why is it then that Mehar is still so cold and indifferent to his charms and persuasion? Why is she still holding the facade of indifference when Abeer is ready to rekindle the sparks of their realtionships? There is a very valid reason that. See I am thoroughly enjoying Abeers antics and his cute harkatein to gain care and attention from all. It is good to see that he is no more bitter, atleast for now. But scratch the surface and you will find that nothing has really changed. Point is Abeer was bitter and angry because he thought Mehar was a gold digger, chose money over him, is unaffected by the divorce and is living her life happily. It hurt him that he and their relationship mattered so little to her. Now ever since he started living with Mehar and her family his illusions started shattering one by one. He found that Mehar too was hurt by divorce, it wasnt as easy for her to collect herself and move forward as he thought. She is still somewhere blamed for following her heart even in her own home. And then the concern he showed for Abeer when he was captured by Pinky Bhai was the last straw. It showed him that she still cared. So from carrying this bitterness from last 8 year that the girl he loved didnt value him at all, he is suddenly enjoying and reveling in the fact that she does care and he does make a difference in her life. Its like a victory, a vindication of his love after all these years. And so he is doing everything he can to get more love, care and attention from Mehar, garner more evidence of the feelings she has betrayed, even extract a confession if possible, so what if it means playing on her sympathy and innate goodness. But the thing is it is still fun and games for Abeer. He hasnt really introspected about his feelings. His progression is like 1-2-1. Stage 1 was falling for the innocent, sweet, serious Mehar- The Good Mehar, and getting her to fall for him through whatever means, his cute antics, showering attention on her, being stubborn whatever. Stage 2 was hating Mehar - The Bad Mehar- The imaginary Mehar he created out of his anger and bitterness -- Manipulative, selfish, uncaring and gold - digger Mehar. But as I said moving in Mehar's home broke his illusion. He has forgot the bitterness, differences, break-up, alimony and is now back to Stage 1. Again falling for the Good Mehar- One who loves and cares about him beneath the mask of seriousness and indifference, and he is again trying to do all he can to get her to confess her feelings. But what he is not realizing is what happens after this stage. Even if Mehar confesses and gives in, what is the guarantee that the history would not repeat itself? But as I said he has conveniently forgotten the stage 2.
And this is exactly where Mehars approach towards this relationship is different from Abeers. Her progression in this relationship is 1-2-3. Stage 1 was falling for Abeers charms despite all her resistence and apprehensions, following her heart, giving in to her feelings. Stage 2 was the realization of their differences, their contrasting personalities, Abeers immaturity, their separation. What is important here is that Mehar never demonized Abeer like he did. Yes she called him immature, impulsive and the one who runs away from problems. Yes she may have exaggerated it a bit, but from what we have seen of Abeer this is not far from truth at all. She accepted the bitterness and reality of their separation, but her acceptance was based on real grounds, real assessment of their contrasting personalities and the real failings of their relationship. She never created an imaginary or overtly bad version of Abeer to console herself. She faced the cold facts and accepted the bitter truths of their relationship. And that is why instead of returning to Stage1, she has moved on to Stage 3, not falling for outer charms but realizing the real differences. She always knew that Abeer loved her, even while separating, so this renewed attention from Abeer is not exactly a breaking news for her. She knows that. The flirtation, the attention, the charm Abeer is displaying for Mehar, she has experienced it all before, gave in to it and saw the result too. So nope, she is not giving in this time. Not until Abeer faces the real issues that led to break down of their relationship first time around. Abeer wants to forget the past like a bad memory but Mehar realizes that it was the harsh reality. Mehar is wiser from the relationship and knows that they separated despite the love, because sometimes only love is not enough to sustain the relationship; you also need trust, maturity & understanding. Abeer is yet to learn this fact and tackle the real issues that led to their separation.
