I don't hate her. I like her depending on what she is up to. I just don't connect with her as a person. As a character I find her dull and uninspiring most of the time.
I think she is a hypocrite. I do not say this to be mean because to be honest this is the only thing that even makes her interesting to me. I find this part of her fascinating. The fact that she is a hypocrite and she doesn't realize it. It is a such a big flaw, and characters need flaws in my opinion. I just wish they did something with it you know. 😊 That brings me to my second thing. Her flaws are useless because it doesn't help her character grow. Any good fictional character needs to change as a character, he or she needs to grow and whether it is for the better or worse. She is more or less the same person she was 20 years ago.
I rarely watch this show anymore. I mainly read updates these days and if something drastic takes place I will tune in to see the actors' performances (because despite the poor story line many of the actors are amazing) So may be that's why my connection with Purvi is even poorer. I am a sister and it is one of the relationships I always cherish on tv because I can relate to it. So when Purvi went ahead with her thing with Arjun it rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed like despite what Ovi, Teju or Sachin felt about her she considered them family but then she went ahead with her relationship with Arjun. I do not need Purvi to be mahaan but from where I saw it if I fell in love with a guy my sister loved all her life and was engaged to I would not marry him even if he wanted to marry me, especially if he lied to both of us. My values will not let me love a man like that. Because Purvi is meant to be a very positive character it was hard for me to digest it. My second thing with her was how she kept going after Manav. Both Purvi and Archana should've had the decency to keep all the wedding business away from Ovi but they wanted Manav involved.
Then comes all the meddling. I don't mind that Purvi tries to help people, what bothers me is she actively tries to make decisions for others. That is so wrong in my opinion! it doesn't matter how good your intentions were, it is completely out of line. Again this is a flaw I would not mind in any character but Purvi is portrayed as the "GOOD/PURE" character despite these flaws, rather than being portrayed as a more complex character with bad characteristics. Like what is wrong with saying Purvi can do bad things as well? (like actual wrong, bad things not just dumb things that weren't well thought out) When she is caught and gets punished for something the story line is always here goes Purvi being misunderstood again or Purvi being abused or misused again rather than Purvi paying for her wrong actions.
I think the reason I don't connect with her is because she is mislabeled as a character both by the writers and by the fans. I do not get Purvi as a lover and most of the time she appears very cold to me. I do not get her love for Arjun. Love is not about helping someone with projects or sitting by them when they are sick. Anyone can do that for you! Love is about understanding a person's deepest emotion, and respecting it. And Purvi rarely understood Arjun. To me it always felt like Arjun was just there in her life. I know she writes in her diary that she loved him the most in her life but to me it never felt that way. It's not that every love has to be perfect but I can't even define her love and most of the time I just want to call it convenience. Like the first time around it was like I ran out bad fiances so you will do, and the second time time around it felt like well I don't have a husband and you don't have a wife so sure why not. Till date her biggest testament to the love has been the fact that Onir didn't touch her but even that can be attributed the facts that she was pregnant and she was a bit cold toward him just like she is cold toward Arjun. (oh also this diary I guess... which again goes to show even though she had 20 years to think about Arjun she didn't have the time to understand him. Like how do you love a man that you do not even understand??!)
I think Purvi's character could've been handled in such a beautiful way that allowed character growth. I think Purvi is fascinating if you accept her as a hypocrite, and kind of a cold woman who is wrong about life and love. This allows her the chance to grow. But if you say she is just another good mahaan girl misunderstood by everyone then there is really nothing to her. She is plain, poorly written and boring because this means she is not the one that needs to change it is the people around her who needs to change their perception.
I hope that made sense. So it is not that I hate her, she just doesn't make sense to me.
