Tell us more about your character Onir in Pavitra Rishta (PR).
Onir is a guy whom every woman would like to have as a
husband. He is an aadarshwadi pati and the male version of Parvati in real life. He loves his wife a lot and can go to any level to keep her happy. He is the best gynaecologist in India and is too good to be true, but then, people enjoy seeing superficial characters.
How does it feel to be a part of such a big show?
It's overwhelming for me to be a part of the show. I was a bit
skeptical about taking up this role and many people had warned me about being a part of such a big cast. The producers of the show convinced me and I am proud to be a part of it. The character is positive and has given me the popularity that no other show has given me. The cast is very friendly and we had a great time shooting.
How come you got into anchoring with Gyaan Guru and Brain Cafe?
I am scared of anchoring but it was my mother's dream to see me as an anchor. I think it's a very difficult job. Different sides of my personality are portrayed on-screen through these ventures. In Brain Cafe, I have to behave like a kid to connect with the young audiences, and then get back to my serious role in PR. I am enjoying the switch.
Who are your favourite co-stars?
One's favourite co-stars keep changing as one moves from one show to another. At present, all my co-stars in PR are my favourites.
You've played a Bengali in Tere Liye and in Pavitra Rishta. Do you have a special connection with Kolkata?
I think there was definitely a connection in my past life. This was another reason for me to be doubtful about the role because I could see similarities with the character in Tere Liye. I think Ekta Kapoor sees a true Bong in me to cast me for the roles. It is wonderful to shoot in Kolkata as the show has a large fan following in the city.
What do you do when you are not shooting?
I am a professional tarot card reader and numerologist so I attend to my clients. I also enjoy working out and spending time with my family.
What about your love life?
There is something growing but it's too early to speak about it. You will get to know about it soon.
You've acted in a film, In a Man's World in 2010. When do we see you on the big screen again?
The film has sunk without a trace. I am dying to get a role on the big screen. I hope directors like Abhishek Kapoor notice me and cast me in films like Kai Po Che.
Any plans of taking up reality shows?
Absolutely. I want to do reality shows as I want people to know the real Shakti. Given a chance, I would love to be a part of Bigg Boss. Although I am not good at politics, it would help me to get out of my shell. Participating in a dance reality show would be interesting too.
Any dream roles you want to do in films or TV?
I would love to play the role of Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar or Shahid Kapoor in Jab we met. I would like to do roles which are either intense or completely romantic. TV shows have the same kind of characters.
What are your plans for the future?
I am busy with PR but I hope to bag some big films. I hope my fans pray for me so that they can see me on the silver screen soon
