Sorry, I disagree. If he put Archana first before his mom, it will defy the basic essence of his chance. He is a guy who makes responsibility his first priority. Here the argument can be made that Archana is his responsibility too. Granted, but he considers Archana as part of himself, and in Manav's world he himself is the last person in his priority list.
Manav has come out and married Archana but remember, that was only when Shravani let him go. He probably would not have washed his hands off the responsibilities otherwise even if it was at the cost of his life.
So I think the CVS are pretty consistent in portraying the real character of Manav. I would be very surprised if he had acted differently. See this part of his nature comes with the package.,....we have to accept it when the recipients are not Manav& Archana. That is life, my dear friends. Life is not always rosey and throws curve balls at us to make difficult decisions to reveal our true self.
