One more thing . Archana sleeping on the floor in the kitchen in Manav's house and her house r totally different things . In many middle class households , due to scarcity of space , people put their bedding on the floor and sleep there . I understand that totally .
But In Manav's house , she was banished to the kitchen as an INSULT . No one can deny this........this is a fact . Jo kuch Bacha kucha hai Kha Lo ..Savita had told her nastily . Phokat mein Khayegi kya , kaam kar she had said . Well , Archu was working even in her moms house .Is this the same thing ?
Manavs house has three rooms ........The living room , the bedroom and one room for Manav........It is actually a mini flat [ real chawls r one roomed only]. Kaka Baba sleep in living room . Savita , Shravni and Vandu slept in one room and Manav alone slept in one room . Only Archna slept in kitchen . She was NOT GIVEN A BEDDING OR A MATTRESS but slept like a servant on a chatai only . They cud have shown that Manav volunteers to sleep in living room with the men , and offers the bed to Archu as she shud live with some dignity there during her court stay , but they didnt show it .
It is not the sleeping on floor that offends me as a viewer .Im from a traditional marathi household and have often slept on the flooor , giving up the bed to other desrving family members ....like my grandmother or polio stricken sister . Sometimes , even my elder brother who I simply loved , and where I slept didnt matter . But the way it was shown .........Eat food in kitchen , NOT AT THE DINING TABLE , SLEEP IN THE KITCHEN , NOT WITH US was what bothered me like hell as a viewer . It was abusive . It was not about space ........it was done as an insult . Karanjkars have two roomed home too , but no one sleeps near the kitchen platform as in Mumbai , most of the time , SERVANTS sleep there , typically in the kitchen on a chatai , with just a pillow . Of course if the house has just one room and a kitchen , perhaps family members do sleep there too as no option is there .But in Archus case , it was definetely an insult and cannot be justfied in any way . This is purely my personal opinion , no offense .
