As you know, I don't enter into debates on who's right and who's wrong because everything that happens in serials is just a ploy to construct and lengthen episodes that are raking in money for BT/ Zee/whoever. What I will comment on, though, is whether the characters we see are good or bad examples for the men and women watching them, particularly young people who can be unconsciously but powerfully influenced by the messages imparted. And while Manav is a good son and brother, he is definitely not a good example as a husband at this point. Partly this skewed system of values is a result of the way Indian families have traditionally been structured: the (outsider) daughter-in-law's needs are always given the lowest priority. DILs who agree with and accept / internalize these values, as Archana does, are "good", and those who don't, like Manju, are "bad". Of course, Manju has all sorts of malicious tendencies that more contemporary / liberal viewers could quite justifiably call bad too, but her first and most vicious "badness" as far as this serial is concerned is not her malice, but rather her inability to put the wishes of Vinod's family before her own. It's terribly unfortunate that televsion serials, which command such a huge and captive audience, so often present the most dangerous and regressive values.
