Bigg Boss will be replaced by a yet untitled fiction show sometime in January. The show will star Aruna Irani as a dominating but loving matriarch, Ansu baa ben, in a traditional gujju family. This is the first time ever Irani will play a Gujarati in a TV soap.
The chocolate boy of television, Jay Soni, will essay the role of her dotting grandson, Kishen. To Ansu baa he means everything. He is the apple of her eye. He is proud of his roots and believes he shall never go against the values he has inherited from his family.
Aruna Irani, who has sanctified the small screen with her Midas touch after a successful career of over 300 films, is pretty excited about the project. "I will be essaying the role of a Baa, who is a widow. She is a strong and assertive woman. Her equation with her grandson is wonderful. This serial has the right mix of the traditional and contemporary. I have been associated with a lot of Gujaratis and also stayed in Gujarat for many years and therefore this show is like going back to those good old days. I will also get to wear beautiful Gujarati saris for this role."
Sources say the role demanded a typical Gujarati flavour and dialect, and thus a versatile actor like Irani could have only done justice to it.
Ask the veteran actress about juggling another daily soap, Parichay, simultaneously and she says, "It shouldn't be a problem. I am comfortable with doing two serials in a go."
