The iron from animal foods, known as heme iron, is absorbed easily by the body. The iron found in vegetable foods, known as non-heme iron, is less available to the body.

Iron which is already less available through veg sources,if u combine with milk which is not only poor source of iron but also high in Calcium which impairs Iron absorption -makes already less available Iron to almost non available. So you wont be getting any iron even though u eat lots of palak paneer. If its just to satisfy ur taste buds, its ok but don't expect that you'll get lots of iron as u r eating a leafy veg-rich source of iron.

Thanks u doc ji.. This is helpful.. Are we saying eat more meat??
What are suggestive iron rich food where u do not have to worry about calcium or taking supplements?

Sorry, chalata phirta 😆 though my Hindi is not bad to not to be able to differentialte between male and female, but i thought since I was using chalati phirati term for encyclopedia and not for a man, it was okay to use it. May be I am wrong😛 I am sure your Hindi is better than mine😊

Actually Bhavi is one of the Acharyas to teach Hindi.. She can correct all of us..
Infact all my Indian languages are gone for a toss after being out of india for so long

Actually i had to do a research - since few years my husband was taking Iron pills at morning with milk and still his iron level was low. So did research on the whole nutrition subject.😛. Just wanted confirmation from professional. Thanks S

I eat baby spinach salad for lunch everyday which is good because at least that way I get some iron in my body as I don't eat meat😉

Most of our cereals are iron fortified. I usually have KASHI GOlean Crunch. It is a good mixture of everything in morning.
