Chapter 5
Siddhi was just applying the final touches to her make up. She stood in front of the mirror and gave a twirl to check if everything was alright
She was a picture of elegance. She was wearing a simple sleevless, timeless red shift dress with high neckline, and she spiced it up with a thick belt belt with stones in a butterfly design buckle at the waist.. The dress had a tulip shape from the waist down just reaching a few inches below her knee. She wore beautiful shimmering stockings and G-string patterned high heels. She let her long black softly brushed loose, which was flowing beatifully over one shoulder as she moved. To complete the look she just wore a simple long stone studded pair of earrings. Her make up was in nude colour but she applied a dark plump coloured Bobby Brown lipstick and a gloss over her lips, which made her look more alluring.
She looked up at the clock and it was alredy 30 minutes past six. Enought time for her to take a taxi to reach the bar and bistro grill restaurant for a dinner date with Kunal. Her very first date with her husband.! She was so excited. She quickly clutched her evening bag and left the house ...she didnt want to be late.
She arrived at the bistro about seven and was led to a table at the far corner of the restaurant near the window with a beautiful view to die for.
While waiting for Kunal , she recalled their conversation, when she said, that they never went on an official date before. They just plunged into marriage as complete strangers without the usual courtship. How ironic life was. One moment she was Kunal's prospective sister in law but with a cruel twist of fate, which changed hers and Kunal's life forever, she became his wife and he, her husband. They have buried their past and put it behind them. They hated each other in the begining but now they are head over heels in love with each other. How and when it blossomed, they had no idea. It was like being sucked into a whirlpool, without both of them realizing it. Since they did everything in reverse. Kunal surprised her this morning by asking her for a date in the evening. What woman can resist such an invitation with such a handsome clever obnoxious husband. She was no exception and readily accepted like a child to be given a candy treat.
"excuse me" a voice said and she came back from her reverie with a thump. The waiter was talking to her and was placing a drink in front of her.
Siddhi: No, sorry, I think you are mistaken. I haven't placed any order yet. This must be someone else's drink.
Waiter smiled at her and said: No mistake madame. The gentleman sitting at the bar bought you this drink.
Siddhi looked at the direction where the waiter was pointing. There was a man sitting at the bar stool but his back was facing her.
Before she could reply the waiter left her with the drink and walked off. How dare that man buy her drink. Did she look like a party girl to be picked up by strangers. She wished Kunal was here.
She checked her time and was surprised to see it was almost close to eight. Where was Kunal.? Is he held up at work.? Did he forget their dinner date?
She took her mobile from her bag and was about to call Kunal, when she saw a tall broad shouldered man with short hair, squarish unshaven face dressed in an expensive grey suit, with a drink in his hand , sat opposite her and smiled at her.
She looked up at the man in surprise.
The man said lazily : Looks like someone stood you up? He's not coming is he?
Siddh looked infuriatingly at the man : Excuse me, mister, I don't know who you are, but this seat is reserved for my date.. So could you please kindly get up and leave.
The man said as if he didnt hear her : You don't like the drink?
Siddhi looked down at the drink and blinked at him stupified : You are the one who bought the drink for me?
The man: Yes, when I saw a beautiful young woman sitting all by herself with her dinner date missing, I thought, why not cheer you up with a drink while your date arrives. Why waste such a beautiful evening with a beautiful woman...
Discomfiture immediately gripped Siddhi and she said with a false composed calmness: You got a hell of a nerve! Please leave and take that drink with you. I don't want it.
The man said with silky smoothness: Are you a decorater?
Siddhi looked up at him in complete puzzlement: What? What are you talking about?
The man continued : I asked, if you are an interior decorater? Because, when I saw you, the room became more beautiful.
Siddhi: That is one of the worst pick up lines i have heard. . Do you do this with all women who are waiting for their dates?
The man : No, only with you. I am a thief, and I am here to steal your heart. Your etheral beauty has blinded me into oblivion . What's your name?
Siddhi hissed at the man: Look here, maybe you didn't get it. I am not interested in you. Could you please leave..or I call the security.
"So you have already told me. You are in danger of becoming repetitive" the man said in a low lazy draw with appreciation in his eyes roving over her flushed and angry face.
Siddhi just sat there and stared at the man.: I think you are a lunatic and cannot take no for an answer.
The man sat back more comforably in his chair and asked: And you are the most beautiful woman I have ever met. Come on indulge me. Give me company and have a drink with me . I am a reputable man and I would not do anything indecent. Trust me.
Siddhi laughed at that scorchingly: Reputable man! You look old enough to be my uncle.!
The man burst out laughing and looked at her admiringly. : And you look young enought to be my second wife. You have a strange effect on me. I am hooked by your mesmerising beauty... Where have you been all my life?
Siddhi flung up a hand in a silencing motion, angry that he could dare to utter such words and before she could say, he beat her to it.
"Who's your date?Must be some small immature boy who doesn't value you at all to have kept you waiting this long.
Siddhi blurted out : My husband is not a young immatured boy! He's a matured and responsible man and respects me.
The man sat back and said with a wickedly sexy smile: Really, you could have fooled me. . So you are married? Taken. That's very sad indeed. I was hoping to bring you home with me tonight.
Siddhi stared across the table at him.: Gosh, you are unbearable,!Yes I am MARRIED and if you have any ounce of decency left, you will vacate your seat now.I have no intention of carrying on this conversation any longer with a stranger.
The man kept looking at her and said: Fine, point taken. I will leave but at least have the drink with me. It's just a mocktail. I ordered Shirley temple for you. I normally dont go around seducing young woman who are intoxicated with alcohol.
Siddhi: So I am supposed to be relieved hearing that. You know, if my husband hears you speak like that, I assure you , that he will bash you up. So go before he comes for your own safety. I cannot guarantee your safety. My husband is a very strong aggressive man.
The man remarked with a strange calmness: Seems like you have yourself saddled with a jealous possessive husband. I would love to meet this man who stole you from me.
Colour ran up below Siddhi's creamy skin in a flying banner of embarrassment and said
" I dont like the way, you make assumptions" she breathed in a taut undertone.
" You're very quick tempered. I like it. " the man said quipped and raised his drink to his lips , asking her to do the same.
She glared at him and sat there with mutinous silence.
Siddhi looked at him and it was as if he had cast a spell on her for it was a challenge even to look away,never mind walk away. He infuriated her but there was something about him that she liked., his persistence, hid arrogance...
The man made a deep sigh and leant across to take her hand which was now nursing the glass, and raised it to his lips. He tenderly kissed her hand and looked up at her with a sheepish grin and asked gravely
" Am I forgiven? - I had to pick up something"
Her lashes fluttered in bemusement and then she looked at him in surprise: " For What?"
" For being late for our first dinner date " he said gruffly against her hand.
Her heart seemed to swell insdie her and her thorat tightened, tears prickling the backs of her eyes . " That would depend how you intend to make it up" she pouted.
Kunal vented a startled laugh of appreciation with a wolfish grin: " I will show you tonight but before that, I want to give you this"
He let go off her hand and brought out a small box from his breast pocket jacket and opened it. Neslted inside was the most beautiful ring with a single stone. He took her hand and slipped it into her finger and said.
"Now we are officially engaged, and I love you Mrs Siddhi Chopra" and brought her hand to his lips and kissed it tenderly with so much love that it brought tears to her eyes.
"Oh Kunal", Siddhi whispereed, " I love you so much!. She stood up and went to him. She laughed happily and looped her arms around him and gave him a shy kiss on his cheeks and hugged him.
After a long time, Kunal drew back and framed her face with his hands
" Will you do me the honour of marrying me , Siddhi Chopra"?
Siddhi touched the tip of her index finger to her husband's beautiful mouth. Her eyes were as bright as stars.
" But we are already married" she exclaimed.
" I want to marry you the right way," Kunal grinned and looked at her indulgently." You know just you and me. You wearing a simple white dress and me in a tux, without the rest of them"
Siddhi laughed. It was, Kunal thought the most beautiful sound he had ever heard. Smiling, he bent his head and laid his forehead against hers.
"Is that a yes?"
Siddhi kissed him on the cheeks and said " it is, with all my heart, a yes"
Kunal laughed , lifted her from the ground and gave a small twirl.
At the background there were wolf whistles and a loud applauses in good nature could be heard as they realized that they were in a public place and were the centre of attention.
Kunal put Sddhi back on the ground, grabbed her hand in his like a possessive lover and said softly to her " Lets get out from here. I want to be alone with you"
With that they walked out of the restaurant with many patrons looking at them with envy at such a beautiful couple... wishing that they were in their shoes.
