Know whats common between Amar Upadhaya,Karan Singh Grover-Shilpa Anand,Rati Pandey,Karan Kundra-Kritika Kamra,Avinash Sachdev-Rubina Dalik and Mishal Raheja Well besides the fact that they are small screen superstars.So immense is their star power and popularity that the minute their characters are bumped off or the shows go off air,thousands of fans deluge production houses/channels et al demanding their return.Amar was the first star who had generated hysteria and heartbreak among fans in 2001 when his screen character and tellys favourite son,Mihir Virani (Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) was killed.Predictably Mihir was naturally brought back from the dead,setting a trend of characters walking back into the show,by popular demand.Last year audiences demanded and got back their favourite stars Karan Singh Grover and Shilpa Anand in new,revamped roles in Dill Mill Gayye 2,Nupur aka Rati Pandey came back in Miley Jab Hum Tum (MJHT) Season 2,and earlier this year Karan-Kritika and Avinash-Radhika returned with new seasons of their shows,Kitani Mohabbat Hai and Chhotti Bahu respectively.And now that Mishal Rahejas character Dutta Patil (Laagi Tujhse Lagan) has been killed,the channel and prod u c t i o n house rec e ive d s i g n e d p e t i - tions from 5,000 fans,demanding the return of Mishal,besides requests for the same on social networking sites.At the beginning of 2011,fans had pleaded for the union of Manav-A rch a n a (Sushant Singh Rajput-Ankita Lokhande) in Pavitra Rishta and the reel l ove r s g o t back sooner than planned! How tough and distracting is it for showmakers when their audiences try to call the shots Saurabh Tewari,programming head of Imagine TV says,The mails and opinions that people post on the internet are from those who watch shows online mostly people who dont live in India.Business wise we get nothing out of these people as they dont add to the TRPs.But they definitely create a brand out of a show.Their opinion does matter but we consider getting back a show/character only if we have a good story and loyal viewers. Sukesh Motwani,fiction head of Zee TV adds,We keep getting certain kind of feedback about all our shows from our viewers and it does matter.But we dont get a character back for the heck of it.For instance in Choti Bahu we maintained the basic template.We take the audiences craze for a particular character as a compliment and accordingly give it importance in a show.
Meanwhile the stars are overwhelmed with the adulation,
Mishal confesses that hes really touched by the audiences
support and love.I am thankful to them that they liked my
role so much.And yes,now
whenever I watch Laagi Tujhse Lagan,I feel upset and
sorry for my fans.

shikha, people who live in India can also make silly petitions as well as non-indians....so i am not sure why you should be blaming people of other nationalities?????

besides, whos to say that you really are an Indian, its very much easy to select your country as you wish in this online portals, so why should channel should believe according to nationalities?

besides even if you are truly indian, listening to you doesnt guarantee that trp will increase as long as the trp device is not set in your house🤔

I think you sort of misjudged Tewaris comment, he was saying that online fans can create a community and thus booster the brand image of the serial whether or not they help in raising trp, and I agree with him there.😊

To be honest, i am not Indian and i know this site is named India-forums but it doesnt say anywhere that "Its strictly for indians"......if it did, i would have never joined.......your comment did hurt 🤢

@ usmrasul, i totally agree with u, yes viewers matter irrespective of nationality. and please dnt feel bad, smetimes people are just to prejudiced.

And as for Mr. Tewary, i m actually unable to understand his comment, what does he mean by people mostly making petitions online or writing on sites arent Indian? Is he underestimating Indians or he thinks we dnt knw the use if internet.

But yes i agree brand value created matters, nothing is more effective than word of mouth.

First thing, purpose of putting this article was never meant
to start bashing on any group, person or channel. Atleast everyone
has rights to post content related to PMMKA and channel in this forum.

I have mixed thoughts over here. I agree with ST thought a bit as they
everytime they cant keep listening to the petitions made by fan. And even if they listen it is not guaranteed that viewership will remain forever as it is. If they listen to one petition, I am sure people will come up with such petition for every other reason.

It is the saddest fact that TV channels only look for viewership based on India only. TRP system is indicator for them how many viewers are watching it and how any serial is doing business actually...But that is again restricted to India.. So no matter even if serial has many online fans or fans from other countries that doesn't means TRPs are strong and channel looks out for TRPs only....

Being biggest industry, I believe there will be many agencies doing evaluation and providing feedback to channels that what kind of contents users are really interested in. If not, TRPs are big indicator for them.

i wasn't takin bout Nationality in anyway nor i would wanna go into its detail .

Also, The discussion whether the trp's through People Meter represents the real audience is a completely different issue!

but Wat i meant was that very few ppl on the forums or net are Indians who are the target audience .and rest of the audience watches the show online.and even though i agree, they help in popularising the show all around but in the end they don contribute a bit to the trp business! they just cant contribute!

I remember how a writer said the same thing in one forum once bout the trps and the foreign audience. And a huge issue was made outta this. And i knew this would happen here too. LOL
