Chalo friends goodnight aaj ke liye! Gtg. ❤️
FYI, KD’s mom is Palakkad Iyer and Dad is a Punjabi. Hence the connection with Appam, avial, rasam, paranthe, both cuisines combined❤️
My god..I never thought she might be frm palakkad..I always thought they r all punjabis..how did u know about this Prema?..I was actually intrigued about why would they eat aviyal with paratta..I mean I never thought any restaurant would serve aviyal as a separate dish other than with rice meals 😆

Really? Aviyal and Dosas are a pretty used combination in TN.... My school hostel had it on the menu, and my mother makes it at home sometimes too, although she primarily makes it with rice and we just have any leftover aviyal with dosas... 😆

KD said this in a very old interview few years ago😆 He also first said that she is a Tamilian who also knows to speak Malayalam but his grand parents were from Kerala though they all moved to Mumbai when his mom, aunt and uncle were young with his grand parents.
We have analyzed this back in May 😆and came to the conclusion that his mom’s side is from Palakkad who knew to speak both Tamil and Malayalam. But he has repeatedly said that he knows nothing about the South culture or the language 😆
His mom is also a Mumbaikar having lived almost all her life there. But looks like she still has her roots and connections, hence the dinner at Kerala Cafe on New Year’s day with his Mom’s side of the family, since Alice is now family she was also part of it.
Also I make avial quiet often and rasam is a staple in my house😆 As for Appam, my husband is an expert in making it.

I am really surprised by this .I never thought his mom was frm South.. .my husband is from palakkad..and people from palakkad are as good in tamil as in Malayalam..me and my husband r from totally opposite sides of kerala..😆..and I still find my husbands language pretty amusing..many of the words he use, I dnt even accept it as malayalam..a good point to tease him ..🙊..but when he speaks tamil..I am clueless ..colleagues here in kuwait get confused if he is a tamilian or malayalee ..😆
But why would he hide his mom's connection with palakkad😆..maybe since they might have never been to South, they hardly feel any connection themselves..so no point mentioning either..

I don’t think hiding was his intention, he didn’t know much about it because looks like both him and his brother were raised mostly around Punjabi culture, his Dad’s side and their yearly visits to Punjab to see his paternal grandparents, his uncles, aunts and cousins. He also grew up learning to speak in Hindi, probably Punjabi. Since his mother’s side is all from Mumbai, may be they never got to explore Kerala or the language his mother’s side spoke - Tamil/Malayalam.

Mein bhi pehli baar dekha...aviyal as a side dish with paranthe...😁
