You talked about slavery & colonial mindset which was unnecessary. Not even our grandparents have witnessed that era. How would it be a default setting of our generation?
From the discussion happening here a section of Pakistanis looks down upon people not knowing enough English & the other section puts down the former for trying to speak English.
At my place no one is obsessed with English. We have always communicated in Urdu in our schools when our books were in English medium except Urdu subject. It’s not our native language but it was our only official language for a very long time. So sometimes it becomes a necessity to learn some languages. I see a lot of people from Pak & India prefer to work overseas so it’s for their own good to learn to speak it fluently if they are moving to a country where natives speak English only.
Also related to English being a primary language or not. I don’t know what you guys were exactly trying to prove but English is a compulsory subject in our state. No matter what stream you choose after 11th English subject is compulsory from the first standard to graduation.
It doesn’t matter that our grandparents didn’t witness colonialism; its effects have been passed down through generations. How else do you explain why Desis are the only ones who mock others for imperfect English pronunciation? In my experience, people from non-colonized countries don’t care about pronunciation as long as communication is clear. The difference is that we had a long period of British rule, leading Desis to associate perfect English with superiority and intelligence.
I have nothing against the English language, but we shouldn't think that speaking perfect English makes someone better than others when it's not our first language(mother tongue). If you move abroad, you'll realize that no one cares about perfect pronunciation or accents as long as you can understand the other person. In fact, it's often considered odd when someone speaks with a fake British or American accent when they are not native speakers.
I am also from Pakistan and we have Urdu medium schools as well but that is not important even in English medium schools children cannot speak fluent English when they start learning it. It takes them some time to learn
The still relevant Tere Bin around the world. Interesting read. Fuschia is so preachy tho

Because it is not our native language. Most of us were introduced to English as a subject first where the focus was on grammer & pronunciations. Look at it that way than being so harsh on desis in general.
Pak TV actors like Durre get criticised for not pronouncing Urdu words correctly. Even I have talked about it. Does that mean I am suffering from some inferiority complex that’s why I consider people having proper Urdu pronunciation superior?
We are from different places may be our experiences aren’t the same. Let it be.

Is this for Nadan? I think Sadia gave Ahmed an 8. Still less though considering they rate less experienced actors higher. They give Nouman Ijaz numbers in sixes lol 😂. Imagine Nadia giving Noumaan a six
