Honestly, I haven't watched the entire show, just some episodes here and there- but how disappointing that they showed the abusers getting scot-free with their ill-doings.
Shah Jahan especially needed to be punished, she got off easy with her punching bag justification, that she wrought havoc on poor Hala because she suffered at the hands of her own mother-in-law. The trauma and abuse Hala suffered wasn't addressed because she continued to remain happily ever after with her abuser, like WTH!
I liked Hamza saying that he wants his daughter to be raised in a non-toxic environment with a strong relationship between her parents. Ideally that should have happened far away from this house because they would have independently raised their child with progressive ideas. Hala could have gone on to finish her education and become more self-sufficient and braver, and become a role model for her child.
But this is just wishful thinking. Like Humsafar, which Mere Humsafar is content with the Maa is Maa justification and ever willing to brush under the carpet the inter-generational trauma suffered by individuals and the abuse that elders wreak upon younger people in the name of badon ki izzat and hum saath saath hein wala happy family. Ah well!🤔
Honestly Sameen is the only shining light in this drama because her journey ideally represents everything an individual, esp. a woman, should endeavor to have. That you can rise above your misfortunes, go on to pursue opportunities in higher education if possible, and attain a sense of self while being a dutiful daughter as well. Marriage wasn't the be all and end all for her. She first had to uplift herself
That should be our takeaway from this drama than looking forward to this idea of a knight in shining armour ro rescue us- we should do the rescuing ourselves!
