BARC has the official nod from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, for its job of tracking TV viewership unlike an Instagram account like pdptrp making bold claims without any official backing
BARC's approach to sample selection, metering techniques, datasets, algorithms, and statistical methods is highly transparent. They provide data across various categories including urban, rural, metropolitan areas, states, demographics, time periods, channel categories, and program genres. Viewership data is reported weekly and monthly, facilitating trend analysis over time and comparisons across different time slots.
However, there are concerns regarding urban bias due to challenges in installing barometers, recruiting and retaining rural panelists, and disparities in TV penetration. Furthermore, BARC's methodology may not fully capture viewing habits on non-traditional TV devices such as mobile devices and streaming platforms, which are increasingly popular, particularly among younger audiences.
Apart from the above mentioned issues, BARC remains notably transparent and reliable compared to obscure entity with questionable credentials, like PDPTRP.
