Inspired by Thamizhan's acting awards, I have decided to start a Tamil music awards series. Members may nominate up to two artistes in each of the following categories. There will then be a vote on the top two names in each category. It would be good if you could state the song/movie in which the said artiste excelled but this is not essential. The categories are:

Owing to the overwhelming (!) enthusiasm for awarding Grammy-like IF awards to the best musical artistes, I declare all artistes who got nominations to be winners. But special mentions must be made of two artistes, who picked up 4 nominations each -- Harris Jeyaraj and Shreya Ghosal; none of the other artistes got anything more than 2 nominations each. Special mention also goes to the Illayaraja melody "Katril varum geethameh", which won two nominations although IR himself got only one nomination. (Note that both Shreya and Hariharan, who got 2 nominations, sang the song, along with several other artistes).
