DON- Pilot Episode 10th February 2006
The scene begins with Parmeet Sethi- Detective Omkar Nath jogging on a track. He stops to catch his breath but upon spotting a pretty lady, tries to act cool. After the failed attempt to impress the lady, he returns to his cycle, only to find the rear tyre punctured.
Intriguingly, there is an empty chewing gum wrapper next to the tyre. DON picks it up to examine it and notices 2 school boys sitting close by, discussing cricket.
DON goes to them and asks one of the boys to "return it". The school boy is shocked as to how DON knew that he had taken the cycle tyre valve. DON explains thar he observed the boys hand which had rubber marks on it.
Next scene is the boys locker room in their school where the cricket team is explaining to DON how their team mate Milind, who is like the Sachin of the team disappeared because the police had found drugs in his gloves. They are convinced that someone has trapped Milind as he is a very decent boy.
DON visits Milinds' home where his dad is worried but his mom seems nervous. A strange phone call where the mother is telling someone to take medicines on time gets DON more suspicious on the mother. So on the pretext of trying to reach his friend Inspector Khan, DON uses the landline, presses redial to find out who had called. "Tope Choice Stores" is the place where the call originated. DON then meets his friend, an elderly Doctor, to discuss his case.
DON tries to gather information from the other team members during their practice session where he twists his arm trying to show off his bowling skils.
He then speaks to Milind's coach who suspects the coach of the rival team.
There is a crucial match on the following Sunday where Ranji trophy selectors would be coming and without Milind, it was near impossible for the team to win.
DON, dressed as a reporter interrogates the rival teams' coach and gets very suspicious of him.
They then show Milind's coach visit a dingy room in some busy locality, where Milind is hiding. He reassures him and tells Milind not to worry.
DON in the meantime is also growing suspicious of the team captain who according to Milinds friend was not too happy about DON's interference.
DON revisits Milinds home where he meets the 3 old men again. They tell him that Milind is a very good boy who fought for them against "Chauthiya"- the local goon who extracted money from these old people. Just then Chauthiya also comes and both have a fist fight where the goon is overpowered by DON and he confesses to placing the drugs under a table in the locker room but not in any glove. He says some boy called him up and asked him for drugs.
DON follows Milinds mother and though he loses sight of her, he finds "Top Choice Stores". He inquires with the shopkeeper and gets to know where Milind is staying. He goes to that room only to find it empy but there is a ball, attached to a string with which Milind was practicing. It is still moving and there is also a tiffin box….the same one that DON saw in Milinds mothers hands while he was following her on his cycle.
Just then the inspector in charge of the case also comes. DON tells him that the boy managed to just about escape. Once the inspector leaves, DON begins to eat the food. He then says… "Milind tum baahar aasakte ho!"
The Milind and his mother come out from another roon inside and Milind explains the entire story. DON tells Milind not to worry and that he will definitely play in Sunday's match.
DON revisits Milinds coach to discuss if there was anyone in the team who he suspected. The coach is aghast at the thought since the entire team according to him was like a big family.
The main suspects now are….the captain-not too fond of Milind who got all the credit for the team's success, the 12th man- who in Milinds absence would get a chance to play and also because he was the one who brought Milind his gloves. He could be the one who placed the drugs in Milinds gloves. The final suspect- Milind's best friend, the 2nd best player on the team.
The scene then moves to the cricket ground where DON comes and accuses the 12th man. But he says he is innocent. Then milind himself appears and everyone is shocked but happy. Everyone except Milind's friend.
DON then explains how Milinds friend put drugs in his own gloves. Then he exchanged them with Milinds own so that Milind would feel uncomfortable and call for fresh gloves. When the police came to the locker room they would find milind's friend's glove in Milids kit bag and arrest him.
All this he did so that Milind would be in jail during the match and the selectors would then select him. The boy is ashamed and begs Milind for forgiveness.
Next scene, DON is with his "Doctor" friend, he switches on the TV where they show Milind being the winner and him thanking DON (without taking his name).
