Shilpa Shetty with the Indian Idol finalists
Shilpa Shetty will be the celebrity judge in tonight's gala round of Indian Idol (Sony, 9.30 pm).
The episode celebrates the music of the 1960s. It will have the final five finalists (Rahul Vaidya, Abhijeet Sawant, Prajakta Shukre, Amit Sana and Ravinder Ravi) belt out chartbusters of the 1960s, especially of Kishore Kumar.
They will also be dressed in the style of those days. Shukre, in fact, will be seen in a beehive hair-do, similar to what the actresses of that era had.
Last week's shock exit of the ever-smiling hot favourite Aditi Paul has made the contestants realise that anything is possible. Ultimately, it is the viewer who decides. Here's what the contestants have to say…
Rahul Vaidya: I definitely thought that I would be among the final five contestants. Now the competition is getting tough and it all depends on how much we appeal to the viewers. Also, one mistake could mean that I am out of the race. I have to work really hard now.
Abhijeet Sawant: I always thought I had the confidence and potential to be among the final five. The audience is the final authority who will decide our fate. I am sure the viewers are aware about the kind of hard work that I am putting in. They have brought me this far and I believe that they will continue to show support and faith in me.
Prajakta Shukre: I really don't know why I have been in the bottom three consecutively for the last three weeks. I would really appreciate some feedback on how to improve. Eventually it is all in the hands of the audience, I am doing my best and will accept whatever comes my way.
Amit Sana: There still exists a very strong bond of friendship among all of us and as for the competition — it's all in a healthy environment.
Ravinder Ravi: I think the viewers have shown immense faith and support towards me. I am working towards improving my singing, the rest is left to God and the Indian audience.
The ones who didn't make it
Here's what Idol aspirants who were eliminated in previous rounds are upto these days...
Aditi Paul
I had a great time being on Idol. We had lot of fun, the whole team. Right now I am in Kolkatta, but I plan to shift to Mumbai in some time. Unofficially both Farah Khan and Anu Malik have told me that they would help me out once I come down. I try and do some riyaaz whenever I get time to
Harish Moyal
I am in Delhi, just basking under all the support and love that people are giving me. Indian Idol has been a great journey for me. Right now am planning to go to Ujjain, the place where I come from and practice with my Guruji. I definitely look forward to doing some playback singing, but my first priority is finding a house in Mumbai
Amit Tandon
I will be singing and acting in Ekta Kapoor's Kaisa Yeh Pyaar. It's a romantic triangle where I play one of the leads. His name is Prithvi and he's a completely positive guy.
Along with acting I am also doing the title song for the show. Since the show is going to be aired on Sony, I am not bound by the contract. Right now am excited about my acting debut on television and also recording some situational numbers.
Vishal Kothari
As per a contract I am not supposed to do any recording for three months after Idol gets over. So I am using all this time to practise and try and do different songs.
In fact I was at Rahul Saxena's place the other day and we both were recording a song. I definitely want to get into playback, but it takes lot of networking. I did speak to Anuji and he's asked me to contact him once Idol gets over. All of us are really lucky to get a platform like Idol.
Mukesh Kumar
Everywhere I go people identify me as an Indian Idol, but now that am out of the show life has returned back to normal. My first priority is to get a house.
I am currently staying with a friend, but need a proper place. I am planning to do some shows and collect money for the same. My ambition is to do playback, but I would need to do lot of networking for it.
