Betiyaan under fire By: Vickey Lalwani September 18, 2006
The controversial hoarding of the show
Zee's forthcoming show Betiyaan, produced by, Dheeraj Kumar's Creative Eye, is under fire. Some women organisations have objected to the hoardings of Betiyaan, saying that they discriminate against the girl child and are insulting to women.
Says a source, "The matter has gone to Delhi and the police has asked Zee to remove the hoardings."
However, Zee Network's senior vice-president, Ashish Kaul, denies that the hoardings are being pulled down due to public outcry.
"The Delhi police has issued a statement and I am told that they have sent it to the director of Zee Telefilms. If anybody protests and files a complaint, the police is duty bound to seek an answer. These hoardings are the first part of the campaign. I don't have means to replace the hoardings overnight simply because of a protest," he says.
Kaul says that the campaign has been conceived on what we have seen since childhood, and the second campaign brings to the fore the myth that the male child is superior than the female child.
"The serial is in fact in favour of the female child. I am sure that the same women organisations will praise the second campaign," Kaul concludes.
