Amrita Raichand has only been talking about cricket the past few days. No, it's not a sudden passion for the game, but a new role that she's taking up. Amrita will anchor Cricket Cafe, a show on the upcoming tri-series between India, West Indies and Australia. And on the show, she'll have along with her veterans like Kapil Dev, Vivian Richards and Tony Greg. "I was approached for this just four days ago and I decided to take it up," says an excited Amrita, as she was setting out for Kuala Lumpur on Saturday night where the series is taking place. "I know the basics of cricket. But the last three days, I've spent understanding the finer details of the game, history of players, their specialisation etc. My husband Rahul, who's much into sports, has been guiding me. In fact, we've stopped talking about everything else and are discussing only cricket!"
But she admits she's nervous. "It's going to be live. And I am shitting bricks. In case I make a mistake, I hope the audiences excuse me."
And what's her dress code going to be? Noodle straps a la Mandira Bedi? "No. It's formal western clothes," she smiles. Amrita's favourite cricketer is Rahul Dravid for "the dignified person that he is and for truly being the wall."
Cricket apart, Amrita's who's been quite choosy about her roles as an actor says, "I'd love to do some interesting roles in movies. On TV, I like anchoring shows." What about TV serials? "I'm not really interested in TV serials unless it's a show like Time Bomb that I did which has a specific number of episodes." For now, however, everything else can wait, as the maiden is ready to hit a googly!
