The forgotten Khans of Tellyland
They were an answer to Bollywood's trio — Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman. We are talking about Iqbal Khan, Eijaz Khan and Cezanne Khan. These three actors were popular a couple of years ago on the small screen. But today they are almost forgotten!
While the Bollywood Khan team continues to soar on the popularity charts, the TV trio seems to have faded into oblivion. Well, the three guys cannot be blamed for it. That's the nature of their medium. Television, as they say, is never about the actors, it's about the characters. If your character clicks, you suddenly get famous overnight. But the moment your show goes off air, the focus shifts off from you.
You are no more the popular star or even heart-throb you once were. It's a fragile medium and we are sure Iqbal, Eijaz and Cezanne themselves may never have expected this turn of events.
Iqbal's 'Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai' made him popular. His character Angad was liked. Iqbal's Bollywood debacle too was forgotten as he soared on TV. Then came 'Karam Apna Apna' which he quit some time later. His mantra in his career has always been something like this 'If you promise me a particular kind of a role and if things don't go that way, I'd rather gracefully quit'.
Sometime ago, Iqbal did 'Waaris', made by Smriti Iraani, a show touted to be his big return to TV. Unfortunately the serial ran into trouble with the channel. Iqbal's character, supposed to be the most important, was reduced and he naturally didn't take it well. Within a few months, the serial wrapped up. Apart from 'Waaris', Iqbal was also supposed to host a show. That too didn't take off.
Eijaz's serials like 'Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka' or 'Kkavyanjali' may not have been very high on the TRP charts, but he was a household face three years ago. Movies became the next logical step for this Khan. He took a clean break from television and concentrated only on films.
Sadly, his debut film as hero, 'Meerabai Not Out' sank. His second film 'Bhanvraa', with other TV actors, too has got endlessly delayed. Eijaz seems to have realised his decision to quit television totally wasn't the best one and the actor is slowly returning back with 'Ssssh Phir Koi Hai'.
Cezanne as Anurag Basu was loved by the womenfolk. But then when the serial was to take a leap, Cezanne chose to opt out. He wanted to pursue films. But movies didn't happen and the actor realised it was best to come back to TV.
He did the show 'Ek Ladki Anjaani Si', but couldn't recreate the Anurag magic. Now he will be seen in a new show, based on the film 'Seeta Aur Geeta', where he plays Sanjeev Kumar's role.
Well, this is what tellyland is all about. It's a struggle each time your show ends. Or should we say, a new beginning each time your serial wraps up. Nevermind your past laurels, it's always starting from scratch. We wish our small screen Khan-trio good luck, as they attempt to resurrect their careers on TV.
