Past in Bangalore

Karthik was leaning relaxed on the sofa stretching his legs to its length as his legs were too lengthy it was protruding out of the sofa...with a remote in his hand shuffling the channels...it was a Friday night..officially the starting of the weekend..he felt so relieved and wanted to jump like a school kid.. "Hurray ..tomorrow no office..."

Even though he likes to work he need some rest for the stress relief..in spite of him being an intern..his trainer had burdened him with so much of work and assignments..without even giving him space to even breath..he even piled him up with his own works too..it was not that he was complaining for the work load..actually he took it has a learning experience..and considered this training as a base to his forthcoming success..after all he was the topper of his batch..and declined the attractive job offers for perusing his dream of doing his masters in abroad..he was waiting for his scholarship to get confirmed...so for the time being he was working there ..though it was a temporary job he has not taken it lightly..he was giving his 200% to whatever job assigned to him..but due to his young age he felt exhausted at times..and the feel of being exploited by his senior was not at all helping either...so he wanted to refresh himself before heading for the long tiring week..

While skipping the channels half mindedly..accidentally when he halted on a cartoon channel..his memories drifted to past ..the sight of Raji lying on the sofa watching the cartoon with so much of amusement and laughing like a manic flashed in his mind...his lips curved into a smile.

"Silly girl.." he mumbled..Silly yet cute..his other part of the heart defended..

But why all of a sudden her face came to him ...he wondered..it was not the first time he was thinking about her..of lately her face with all different expressions like..smiling ,angry,sulking ,pouting ,absurd,amusement and so on kept flashing in his mind frequently..it doesn't mean that he was always thinking about her but suddenly out of blue her face would pop up in his mind..it might be during his heavy work, while sleeping, in the mid of something important...seeing things related to her..yesterday while he saw the street vendor, selling roses..he thought Raji's craziness towards flowers..like today he was reminded her for her cartoon fondness..like so many incidents had happened recently..

As he was a single child and not of much socializing person ,he neither knew the world of girls nor interested in it..a rare combination of looks with brain had brought him to lime light in college and always had the attention of girls from all around..but he never let his mind to distract from his ultimate goal of reaching heights in his studies..he was more of a studios and geeky person in college..he was not in those fantasies like running behind girls and doing stupid stuffs to impress them...he preferred to go to some extra classes where boys of his age enjoying in parties and pubs..he always stands unique from the rest..

Raji was the only girl had stolen his attention..evokes curiosity in him to know the girls world..brought smile to his otherwise serious face..

Now He has become acquainted with her every antics..and has even started to adore her cute frolicsome face...it energies him after his long tiring day ..actually he had started looking forward to the tuition session every evening..today he don't have tuition class as she was having sports day in her school..

The thought of not able to see her had wiped out all his happiness..He sighed heavily...

Her last night's talk ran as a movie in his mind..

"sir,naalaikku tuition class ku leave vida mudiyumaa..?she asked with expectant eyes..

"yaen ..?"I asked curtly...

"yenga school la annual sports meet..""She seemed so much excited about that...so i asked..

"Nee yedhaavadhu event la participate paniryaa?"

She frantically shook her head negatively..

"iyoo illai...naan yedhulayum participate pannalai...chumma vedikai paarka dhaan poren.."

"adhukku yedhukku ivlo excite aagura?"I asked in amusement..anticipating some incredible explanation from her..as always she didn't disappointed me by her mind blowing explanation..

"Yenga school..sports day ku neraiya per varuvaanga..parents..relatives..ivlo yen pakkathu college pasanga kooda varuvaanga..ponnungala sight adikka.."she chuckled gleefully..

But he fisted his hand in rage...he felt disgusted...

"Is she going to say she is excited to drool over those boys..?"

Don't know why his muscles stiffened..and his blood boiled with the mere thought..

"ivlo per varradhala..neraiya food stalls poduvaanga..South Indian , north Indian,chat, continental ippadi yellame irukkum..naanum yen friends um ippave plan pannitom..yennenna saapiduradhunnu..first pizza,appuram ,pav baaji,pani puri,cotton candy,ice cream,popcorn..nugets.."she listed those items with a dreamy look..

His muscles relaxed and shook his head in disbelief ..and got mad at his own self for thinking cheaply about this baby girl..

"How could I think low of her..?"he taunted himself regretfully..

And then he rolled his eyes hearing her long list..

"Raji..Do u have any store room in ur stomach for storing all these stuffs..?i asked by wiggling my brows in amusement..

Her sulky face for his comment still remains fresh in his mind's eye..and brought smile to him..his heart remarked him..he was smiling often nowadays..

He didn't want to spoil her happy mood demanding her to come for the class..so he spared leave for her..

She must be enjoying eating all her favorite foods to her heart content..he imagined her eating her favorite ice cream with glittering eyes..Relishing every bite making delicious moans..

Suddenly he fantasized that he was there watching her..and a little of ice cream sticking at the corner of the lipss..she offered him the ice-cream extending her hand towards him..as if inviting him to eat that..Intrigued by that sight he slowly walked towards her and clutched her hand that holding the ice-cream..she looked at him in confusion...he slowly bend down to lick the ice cream at the corner of her lips..

He jerked back to reality and hits hard the back of his head..how could he imagine this cheap..?"

"No it is wrong... very wrong...for god's sake ..she is just a kid..How could i even think in this context if I give even a small hint of my thought it may ruin her entire future..No I can't afford that..i love her innocence...i can't let that spoil due to my creepy thoughts"

He decided to keep distance from her and maintain thorough teacher student relationship with her..he brushed off the third rated thought from his mind...

He stood in front of the mirror splashing water on his face forcefully to wash off of his new found feeling..

Suddenly he heard a door bell...

He wondered who could be at this late hour..Mala amma and periyappa had gone to temple they will return only tomorrow...then who could be this..?

He opened the door immersed in his thought..but was appalled to see the anxious face of Renu aunty Raji's mother..

"Karthik thambi..akka vandhutaangalaa?"she asked worriedly..

"illai aunty periyammaa..nalalikku kalaila dhaan varuvaanga..yenna aunty yedhavadhu problem aa?"he asked in concern..

"Raji ku dhaan paa.."

Hearing her name his heart skipped a beat and started beating frantically.. stomach churned in fear..

"Raji ku yenna?"he asked hurriedly..

"Stomach pain la thudikara..hospital ku kootitu poganum..ivanga appavum oorla illai..adhaan akkava help ku koopidalaamnu vandhen...thambi..auto stand ku poi oru auto pudichitti vara mudiyumaa paa..?"she asked pleadingly..

"Auto vaa..car irukkum podhu yedhukku auto?"

"yenkku car otta theiryaadhu paa.."

"naan drive panren...neega poi Raji ya ready pannunga..naan veeta lock pannitu varen.."he hurriedly locked the door and reached her home in a jiffy..

There ,the sight he had seen ,he would never forget in his whole life..

Raji was curled up on the sofa..clutching her stomach close to her..her face reflected extreme anguish..she mourned in unbearable pain...

His heart crumbled seeing her lying there like a withering leaf..he rushed to her immediately without a second thought..and scooped her in his arms..

At first she was startled by the sudden touch but after seeing him she felt so much relived and she clutched his shirt firmly for support..as if expecting him to reduce her pain..her tight grip showed how much pain she was enduring..feeling her pain as his..he hugged her close to him as if saying..

"I am with you don't worry..i will take care of everything.."

The message conveyed successfully..she seemed little stable then..

He darted towards the car and placed her on the back seat ,after her mother has settled in ..the car raced towards the nearest hospital..he had driven like a mad man..not minded breaking the traffic rules..all he needed was to reduce her pain..nothing mattered him more than her.

Though Raji was in extreme pain she suppressed her screams to light moans getting cautious of his presence..if it was only her mother..then she would have created a tsunami there...

"Vali korainjirukaa Raji.."her mother assumed as Raji stopped her screaming..

Raji gritted her teeth to suppress both her anger and pain..

"innum appadiye thaamaa irukku..she mumbled in pain..

Karthik accelerated even faster feeling the pain in her voice...

After admitted her in hospital...when he has to be waiting outside the causality ward he felt so helpless and frustrated...on the other side Raji's mom was in a pathetic condition..he had to take care of her as well saying some consoling words to her at times..

After their endless wait ...doctor came out of the room and gave the good news "she is alright now..she has developed food poison may be due to some allergic or contaminated food..we have given her a stomach wash ..thank god u came on time..otherwise the poison may mixed up in the blood then it would have become very serious issue..but now there is no problem..she should be skept under observation for 24 hours..if all the reports are normal then you can discharge her tomorrow..

"Thank you doctor..shall we see her now?"Karthik asked with a sigh of relief..

"Of course u can..but she is sleeping now under the effect of sedatives..she will wake up in a couple of hours.."

Saying that doctor walked off..

Karthik and Renu aunty entered the room..

Renu anuty cried seeing her dearest daughter lying on the bed all exhausted..

Though Karthik's heart wrenched in pain..he composed himself and consoled Renu aunty

"Aunty azhadheenga doctor dhaan sonnagala..bayapada onum illai nu.."

"ilali thambi..ivanga appa vera oorla illai..ivalukku yedhavadhu aagi irundhaa naan yenna panni irupen sollu..Raji appa..paakadhaan ava mela kandipaa,kovamaa irukara maadhiri theriyum...unmaila Raji dhaan avaroda uyiru...ivalukku yedhavadhu aachina..yennai vida avaru dhaan thudichi povaaru..nee pannadhu timely help pa..marakkave mudiyaadhu ..romba thanks thambi..."

"Thambi nu sollitu thanks nu solreenga...idhu sariyaa?"Karthik asked in fake anger..renu anuty smiled.

"Aunty Raji ku yenna achhu?appadi yenna saapitaa ava?"

He had seen her face slightly flushed in embarrassment before answering to him..

"avalukku yeppavume saapiduradhunaa romba pidikkum..inniku school food stall pottirukaangannu..packet money a yellam yeduthuttu poi full aa gaaali pannitaa pola..pizza,burger,chilli gobi,popcorn,panju mittai,French fries..nu vagai thogai illaama saapitirukaa..veetukku vandhu half an hour la vayiru vali nu kattha aarambichitaa..."

Karthik rolled his eyes in exasperation..

"Oh..god..how much this girl could eat..?"

Suddenly he asked as if remembered something.. "aunty uncle ku solliteengalaa?"

Renu hits her forehead with a gasp...

" sollanum pa...indha tension la adhai marandhuten..naan veliya poi pesittu varen.."

After she left..he came near Raji..she looked pale and worn out...he sat near her and fondled her hair lovingly..

"Raji..pls..Don't put yourself in danger ...it hurts me more.. than u.." he uttered..out of his control..a drop of tear rolled out from his eyes..

A small smile appeared to her lips in her sleep..

He stared at her face for the long time until he heard some sound near the door step..he averted his gaze quickly..

Present..

"ponga Vishnu neenga romba mosam.."Raji said in a grumbling voice..

"iyoo..Raji ippadi podhuvaa sonna..kekkuravanga yennai thappa nenaichika poraanga..yenna vishayam nu thelivaa sollunga.."Vishnu acted as if he was startled.

Raji...vishnu and lakshmi were in cafeteria and engaged in some casual talk during their break time..at that time, out of blue Raji started this conversation..

"pecha maathaadheenga Vishnu..neenga panradhu ungalukke niyaama irukaa?

"naan yenna panren..iyoo naan coffe thaanga kudikaren..neenga venaa smell panni paarunga..?"

"Aahaa...bayangaramaana joke..idhukku indha alavukku sirichaa podhumaa..eee...?"she showed all her teeth..

"appaaa..sema kadupula irukeenga pola irukku..yenna vishyam nu sollunga Raji.."

"unga friend ippadi irukaarennu konjamaavadhu ungalukku akarai irukaa?

She asked accusingly..

"Yen friend aa yaaru?Karthik aa? vishnu asked in confusion..

Raji gasped in anger..

"Ungalluku yethanai friends irukaanga?Karthik sir ah dhaan solren.."she said with annoyance...

"Karthik ku enna?handsome hunk..heart throb of nettech..infact yen kittaiye neraiya ponnunga vandhu Karthik oda phone number kekkuraanga...naane kaandula iruken neenga vera Raji.."

Raji s eyes widened with shock ..

"Iyoo Vishnu..appadi kandavanga vandhu sir oda phone number ah keta kuduthu tholaichidaadheenga...appuram unga stomach burning ah yellam appuram vachikonga..ippo sir oda unmaiyaana problem ah pathi pesalaamaa?"

"What do u mean Raji..?"vishnu asked with keen look..it was clear that he became cautious..and his stern voice clearly reflected his disinterest on this topic..

Raji felt proud about their friendship..maybe he looked fun loving freak at outside..but he is indeed a great friend from his heart..

His friendship on Karthik would help her to accomplish her mission.. she sighed in relief..

"I am talking about his depression after losing his parents at a fateful accident.."Raji said with straight face and serious tone..

Vishnu's eyes were taken a back and looked at her sternly,...

"Raji if I am speaking to u very friendly, it doesn't mean that u can talk anything to me and gossip on whatever things u assume it could be.."

"hey Raji yenndai yennenamo pesura...?"Lakshmi asked in condemning voice

"Sorry Vishnu don't get me wrong...sir ah pathi yellame yenakku theriyum.."

"Raji lets leave this topic..i don't want to discuss anymore about Karthik's personal life..with anyone.."he said with the finality in his tone..

"But Vishnu..we can't sit back and watch him sinking in his past..he has to move on..we as a friends it is our responsibility to help him to come out of his pain.."Raji argued firmly..

"Raji he is not a kid and he can help himself well enough...moreover who said u that he is in depression..actually he was... he is perfectly alright now.. so don't be nosy with other's matter." he said in an irritated voice..

"What u r seeing from the surface is not the true ..."

"Stop it Raji...i said the discussion is over..both of u get back to work.."he lost all his patient and yelled at her..

"Ok sir..i will leave everything...but before that can u answer my one simple question..?Despite of having the car at home ,why Karthik sir comes to office in his bike not minding him even fully drenching in rain at times..?"

Vishnu stopped for a moment and looked her face apprehensively..

"Raji tell me one thing who r u? How do u know all about these things..in the whole office I am the only person knowing about his past...i swear I never leaked a bit to anyone..then who told u all these..is it Karthik?"he asked in shock..

"Vishnu..Do u think Karthik sir will utter a word more than it required..?"

"Then who else it could be?"

"Mala anuty.."

"U mean Karthik's periyamma...?"

"Yes, she is my neighbor long time back in Bangalore..a week before I had seen her in temple she told me everything about Karthik sir.."

"U know Karthik before u join nettech?"Lakshmi asked in surprise..

"Yes..but I had only heard about him through mala aunty..and seen his photo in her home.."

She doesn't want to reveal the whole truth that she knew him well personally... so she only disclosed as much as required..

"ippa yenna pananum nu solra raaji.."Vishnu asked showing some faith in her words...

"We have to bring him out of his dreadful memories...one of it is, his phobia towards car driving..

He is thinking that due to his careless driving had killed his parents..so he is not even stepping in the car.."

"But who could tell him all these..do u think he will pay heed to us?"Vishnu asked sarcastically..

"When I said we r going to give him lecture ..?"she retorted with the same amount of sarcasm..

"Then ?" he asked with a frown...

"We should preach him through action..We must put him in a situation where he can have no escape or excuse from driving.."

"What kind of a situation it could be..?"

"Vishnu I have a plan for that..listen carefully.."she explained her plan..and VL's face has turned like what the heck is this..?'

Raji sense their disapproval from their faces and glared both of them...

"idhu romba nalla plan ..kandipaa workout aagum..all u need to do is help me in this..ok..?"she asked authoritatively..

"Lakshmi...inga yaarukko.yaar melaiyo over akkarai maadhiri theriyalai..don't u think something fishy here?vishnu said with raising his brow in exclamation ..

"U r right Vishnu..yenakkum appadi dhaan theiyudhu.."lakshmi played along ...

Raji's face flushed lightly out of her ample attempts of controlling her blush..

She masked her shyness under anger..

"paavam mala anuty romba feel panraangalennu kashta pattu moolaiya kasakki oru plan ah yosichi sonnaa...ippadi dhaan kindal pannuvenegalaa?"she pouted her lips...

"Mala anuty kaaga vaa?naanga nambitom.."both laughed at her..

"appuram idhu dhaan nee kashttta pattu moolaiya kasakki yosichi kandu pidicha plan aa..kadavule..ippadi laam comedy panandha Raji..yennala sirikka kooda mudiyala.." lakshmi mocked at her..

"ok guys joke apart.. indha plan la yenakku help pannuveenga dhaane?"she asked seriously..

"Done.." all of them join hands in assurance ..

Raji was standing near the corridor besides the reception area..watching the lift door with nervous eyes..lakshmi was standing beside her with the same nervousness..

"Raji idhellam sariyaa varumaa...?"she asked worriedly..

And got a deadly glare from Raji in return..

"naane inga tension la iruken yellam nallabadiyaa nadakanum nu..nee vera tension pannadha Lakshmi..?"s She chided her..

"illa di yedhaavadhu sodhapitaa..problem aagidum la adhaan.."she revealed her concern..

"onnum sodhapaadhu..nee Vishnu ku call panni yellam ok vaa nu kelu.."

Lakshmi nodded her head and called Vishnu..

"Hello Vishnu.."

"mmm ok..we r ready here..mm sari.."

Raji cued at her as if asking what..?

"Avanga lift la yera poraangalaam.."

"Ok lakshmi it's action time.."both showed her thumbs up..

She inhaled sharply before closing her eyes and slides down slowly and lied down on the floor unconsciously..glancing the lift door opening at the corner of her eyes..

The plan was Raji would fall unconscious and Vishnu should bring Karthik at that time as if it looked coincidence..and Lakshmi should shout for help. So obviously Karthik will pick her up and will rush to Vishnu's car..at that time Vishnu will say he has to attend the important meeting..so with no other option left with Karthik should drive the car..though this plan has many flaws if it well executed the success rate also very high according to Raji..as she already experienced it..

Aa per their plan after Raji has fainted lakshmi shouted for help..

"Iyoo..Raji..Raji..yennachi..help..pls..someone help.."

Raji heard some footsteps hurried towards her..she squeezed her eyes shut ..and waited for him to lift her in his arms..

Finally the moment has come..

She felt herself to be lifted by two strong arms..and her heart flew in air as her plan started working..

In her excitement she has not noticed that Lakshmi's shouting has stopped.

She felt he was rushing towards outside...her heart danced in joy...she tried very hard to keep her eyes closed..but curiosity over powers her restrictions and she lightly peeped open her eyes..

And then her eyes snapped open instantly in utter shock...she was not in Karthik's arm.

She had seen herself being carried by the stranger man..
