Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki!
A/N: As mentioned in my previous fic, Ranbir's surname is Singh. For the sake of my story, I have invented a slight background for Ranbir.
Ranbir Singh, is the younger son of Ram and Priya Singh. (Yes, the names have been mooched from BALH. I do NOT watch the show, and I've just mooched off the names from there. None of the characters in my fic resemble any characters from that show, and I have no intentions of hurting the fans of that show.) The Singhs are established building contractors in India, and they handle various construction projects all over the country. Both, Mr and Mrs Singh are involved in the family business. They have an elder son, Rachit, who's doing his Masters in Engineering in the US. The Singh's residence is quite close to the Bajpaayees residence, but the Bajpaayees have never really visited the Singhs or invited them over. Reason? The Singhs have extremely modern values and morals, and the Bajpaayees have always found this rather unfavorable, considering we know their morals and ethics and what not. The Singhs know about Rits and Ranbir's relationship and have no qualms with it.
Please note that Ranbir has an OUTHOUSE, which is where AnYa will be staying for some time. An outhouse is basically a very small house that is constructed near huge mansions. It is within the same compound, and normally serves as a spare room/hall during parties, and as an extra room if there are too many guests who have come over. Ranbir's outhouse basically is kinda like a room of 100 square metres, where there is a huge mattress on the floor and it has an attached bathroom, not to mention a little make-shift stove.
Enough of my chappad chappad! Back to the story!
(Outside the Singh Residence)
"What's wrong Anant? Why aren't we going in?" questioned Navya.
"Navya, are we correct? Please tell me Navya..are we doing the right thing?" asked Anant, as he took Navya's hands in his own.
"Anant..while I didn't like the way you spoke to Papajee and Bua Dadi, in a way you weren't wrong either. You have the right intentions in your heart, its just that you didn't express yourself well. And the worst part is we lied to our families Anant..and I think that hurt them the most. Our intentions were right, but our method was wrong.." replied Navya quietly, as a tear escaped from the corner of her eye.
"Oh crap! I made you cry again! Navya, baby, please don't cry!" said Anant hastily, as he took her face in his hands and kissed her tears.
At this point, its like Navya couldn't control her emotions any longer, and she let the dam burst, as her tears cascaded down her face. It broke Anant's heart into a million pieces to see her in such a state, and he pulled her into his arms, as she buried her face in his chest. He kissed her head and stroked her hair repeatedly, with the hope that his efforts to comfort her would not be futile.
"Look Navya, we really need to go inside now. We'll talk about this once we're inside okay? We shouldn't be standing outside at this time. Please compose yourself." pleaded Anant, as he stroked her hair.
Navya pulled herself away from Anant and wiped away her tears as she stared at Anant with her huge brown eyes. Anant took her face in his hands and said, "I will make everything alright Navya. Trust me. As long as you're with me, nothing can go wrong. I love you Navya."
Anant held Navya's hand, and they walked towards the huge gates of the Singh Mansion.
"Mr Anant! Mr Ranbir wasn't expecting you! Let me open the gates." said the watchman, as he opened the gates to the Singh Mansion.
Anant's grip on Navya's hand tightened as they walked towards Ranbir's house. The watchman had already informed Ranbir using the intercom that Anant had come to visit him, so by the time the couple had reached the main door, Ranbir had already opened the door and was waiting for them.
"Anant! Come on in Bro! Hey Navya! You guys here at this hour? All's well?" asked Ranbir concernedly, as he led them inside.
"Erm Ranbir..can we sit and talk?"
"Yeah sure dude! Come on, lets sit here and talk. Kaka, please get us something to eat!" said Ranbir, as they took seats on his plush sofa.
Anant and Navya just looked at each other as Anant hesitated to tell Ranbir the problem.
"Anant, what's the matter? Look, we've been friends for as long as I can remember. You can tell me whatever you want dude. Please, say something! Navya, what's wrong?" asked Ranbir worriedly.
"I've left my house Ranbir." said Anant.
Ranbir, who was eating a piece of brownie, dropped it on the floor on listening to this statement of Anant's.
"Anant! Why?" asked Ranbir in astonishment.
"They got to know about our plan. And they blamed Navya and her family and her upbringing for the entire issue. According to them, its cause of Navya that I've begun to lie and do all this." said Anant in a monotone.
"But that's obviously not true! You guys staged that drama just to bring both your families together!"
"I know Ranbir. I know. But they didn't understand us. Once they began to say all sorts of nonsense against Navya, I lost it. Baba has disowned me."
"Anant! I'm so so sorry for you bro! It's a good thing that you guys came here. You guys can stay over at my place for as long as you want and-"
"No Ranbir. I've not come here to stay over with you. I've come over here, just because its really late at night and I don't want Navya to be roaming around on the streets at this time. We'll leave tomorrow morning."
"Have you lost it? Where will you go tomorrow?" asked Ranbir incredulously.
"I don't know Ranbir. But I can't stay here and live like a free-loader. I too have my self respect." said Anant indignantly.
"And that's a very good thing my boy!" said a voice.
Anant and Navya stood up and turned, and to their immense surprise an elderly couple was standing in front of them, with a smile on their face.
"Mr Singh? Good Evening! Erm, I guess you haven't met Navya before? Navya, meet Ranbir's parents." said Anant with a smile.
Navya immediately covered her head with her pallu and went to touch their feet. To her immense surprise, both of them didn't let her touch their feet, but pulled her into a warm hug.
"You don't have to put a pallu in front of us darling. Please take it off!" said Mrs Singh sweetly, as she gently rearranged Navya's sari.
Navya could only gape at Ranbir's mother in shock as she removed her pallu and straightened her sari.
"Please, lets all sit down and discuss this with a calm and logical mind. Firstly, Anant and Navya, please accept our heartfelt apologies for not being there at your wedding. We both had an extremely important meeting with the Home Minister in Delhi and we had to be there. I hope Ranbir gave you guys your wedding gift from our side?" asked Mr Singh, as he pressed a plate of pastries in Navya's hand.
"It was absolutely lovely Mr Singh. The candle stand is on our.. I mean it was beautiful. Thank you so much." said Anant, trying unsuccessfully to smile.
"Ahh. Don't worry son. Now coming to your situation. Forgive me and Priya, but we landed up eavesdropping on your conversation with Ranbir. From what I can understand, Ranbir wants you guys to stay over here with us, but that goes against your self respect and pride, right?" said Mr Singh knowledgeably.
Anant just nodded silently, wondering to himself as to where was this conversation going.
"Okay, you guys can stay over here tonight. Now Anant, I'm sure you know about our outhouse right? How about you stay there, till you get a nice job and a suitable place to stay?"
"Bur Mr Singh-" said Anant, as he was interrupted by Ranbir's mom.
"Oh please don't get us wrong. We're not letting us live there for free! You're gonna pay us rent, but whenever you can manage. See, no one's gonna let you rent a house without a deposit. So how about you stay in our outhouse till you guys settle down and are stable enough to get a place of your own? We'll take some money from you as well! Don't say no Anant!" said Mrs Singh with a smile.
Anant looked at Navya who just smiled at him and nodded.
"Alright then. We'll do as you say. Thank you so much once again for the help Mr and Mrs Singh. We'll be grateful to you for as long as we can remember."
"Anant is right. I have no words to describe how grateful we are to you both right now." said Navya, as a tear escaped from the corner of her eye.
Ranbir's mom went and sat next to Navya, and pulled her into a warm hug.
"There's no need to cry sweetheart! Everything will be alright soon!"
Anant stood up and hugged Ranbir, and then proceeded to shake Mr Singh's hand.
"Thank you so much Mr Singh. This really means a lot to both of us." said Anant, as his eyes shone with unshed tears.
"Navya!"
Everyone turned around to see the source of the scream. To their immense surprise, Appy and Rits were standing near the entrance of the living room with tear streaked faces.
"Erm guys, I forgot to tell you..I kinda texted Rits the matter, and she erm..dropped by!" said Ranbir guiltily, as Anant turned to give him a dirty look.
Spoilers for Chapter 2: Navya gets a new wardrobe!
A/N: Wow, thanks for the response to the prologue! I will personally reply to each and every one of you! This chapter was nothing much, it was more like a filler actually, so its kinda boring! But not all chapters can be all dramatic and romantic right?
