My suggestion (credit - movie Hum hain rahi pyar ke)... on engagement day Navya comes to Anant's house with her niece (borrowed for a few hours from her sis)... and says to Anant in front of everyone "mere aur humare is bachche ka ab kya hoga...*cries buckets of tears*" - everyone shocked, engagement stops (at least temporarily)...
