I beg to disagree here.

There is an old song 'Oh meri maina, teri meethi meethi baatein'.....was performed by Amit-Neeru in NB1 and by Shveta Salve and her choreo in the finals of Jhalak dikhlaja.

Both the versions are poles apart from the original in the film ( I have forgotten the name of the film but I remember it was a charming song). Amit Neeru performed it as a comedy and did a Menaka - Vishwamitra spooof. It was wonderful. But when Shveta and her choreo performed in the same song, it was breathtaking. Amazing. The steps, the concept, everything came out to be absolutely perfect. They did not fall short of steps and it was oh so 60s !. 60s and 70s don't have only that many steps. Anyone who has seen 'Oh Haseena' song can tell it was copied almost frame by frame. The novelty was missing. I personally don't think Minnie has been that creative as the judges would make her to be. Her 'mahive' was copied from the film, including the costumes and expressions, her Bobby darling act, though endearing, was almost a take off from last year's Varun Rajeshawari's comedy round. But admittedly, substancially different not to make an exact copy. Bhaktiyar's solo resembled Parmeeth Sethi's last year solo.Even her 'hoton pe aisi baat' is Vaijaintimala copied minus the grace, and her costume was pretty revolting........'inspired' is the word that comes to mind when I think of the concept she has used. The only performance which was original was their kal ho na ho piece, which was of course well and truly beaten by Hussain-Tina's blindfold.....................

I agree once again with your opinions Minnie 😊...I'm not sure what is meant by steps that don't look copied ...if anyone has seen the original O haseena, they'd know it was exactly the same here, with a bit of Piya tu ab to aaja thrown in....and if someone hasn't, then I don't think they can say it didn't look copied!! Also, you've given various other valid examples to show how Mini failed to bring out innovative steps or concepts, especially when you compare it with that of H-V's or Yogesh's (Manav-Shweta's choreo)...I feel that more often than not, she just served old wine in new (and not very new either) bottle!!

In addition, if any of you think there wasn't much to do in songs from 70s, I suggest you brush up your knowledge of Hindi films and dances by watching a ton of them....you'll find more variety in every genre of films and songs, probably even more than you'll find nowadays!!!

Please take care that this topic is not for bashing anyone, and certainely not to get personal. Please stick to the performances and give reasons for the analysis.

First Round:

1) Yash - Gauri - Haila haila

costumes: Gauri looked very pretty and demure.

Yash looked like a fisherman, so costume wise they were great.

Dance: The fact that they were depicting the loud nature of fishermen, their performance did not live upto that latka jhatka one would expect. Gauri was as usual very graceful, but that jhatak matak associated with the west coast dancing was missing.

Marks: 7/10

----------------------------------------------

Tanaz- Bhaktiyar:

Costume: Tanaz was looking like a dream. Bhaktiyar started looking like Shammi and ended looking like - Bhaktiyar !!😆

Dance: In earlier episodes, couples and choreographers have been given less marks for copying same to same from films, but nothing was said about this performance. I was dissapointed as far as the steps went. There is so much more to that era of dancing - Helen danced the same and evertime came out looking different. So I was not that impressed. They did not try anything different concept wise and stuck to the song. Even the props were not used properly.....In all, it was good, but not upto the semi final standard. I am not usre what impressed the judges so much.

My marks: 6/10

-------------------------------------------

Hussain-Tina:

Costume: Both were looking so smart that my mouth fell open. They both looked gorgeous and very smart.

Dance: They looked stylish, and used their props amazingly well. Had lovely steps, and the choreos kept to the basics of keeping in sync with the style factor. A little more energy would have added to the performance, but there was nothing to take away from the performance either. They had a tough competition as the original dancers would have hard to beat, so the choreos inspite of keeping the style same, gave them stylish but relatively easy steps. One more good thing that they did was to choose a para which was soft. In all, very entertaining, worth a second look.

My marks: 9/10

------------------------------------ ------

Second round

1) Yash Gauri: Aaja Gufao me aa

Costume: One word: Apt. The costume and the concept was very original and both acheived the look of mystery and sin. Wonderful.

Concept and Dance: Again one word: Mindblowing !!!! What a performance. The whole concept, environment, the feel of their song transported me to a world of darkness, sin and mystery. The steps were fantastic and eyecatching. They were also very different from what Yash and Gauri have dne so far. Deepak was at his creative best and Yash Gauri were at their dancing best. I think it was in all a true semi final performance. 👏

I have no idea why Saroj deducted marks, that too after blowing the whistle....sometimes she is more mysterious than all gufas put together !!! 😆

My marks: 10/10

---------------------------

Tanaz- Bhaktiyar: Yadein

Costume: Tanaz was looking like an angel, sweet and heavenly. Bhaktiyar was looking smart and depressed. Suited the mood.

Concept and Dance: The concept was very sweet. It started beautifully and strikingly. Tanaz was looking her part and Bhaktiyar emoted very well. But I felt in all somewhere, they lost the intensity somewhere ( like the type we witnessed during the Shweta Manav performance). It just remained sweet all through. Again, the steps looked similar, even in the slow dance - the same kind of lift, same kind of 1-2, 1-2 steps back and forth. Bhaktiyar again came down with the now familiar pose of banging his fist on the ground ......a little balle type movements akin to Shyamak Dabar would have been more suitable. Hopping off the ground for every reason is what is making their dance look so similar totheir previous ones. Plus the finish was not as great as the start was.In all, sweet, touching, conceptually beautiful, but lacking in that final bang which would have fetched them the perfect score.

My marks: 8/10

----------------------------------------

Hussain- Tina:

Costume: Very different...nothing spectacular. The effect of teh costume was felt only after the dance was in progress.

Concept and Dance: By the time I watched this performance, I had no expectations. My friend told me she had tears in her eyes aftre the performance, while the members here thought they did not dance well, and with reasons. So I did not know what to expect. But as the performance came to it's conclusion, I kept sitting for a while simply thinking how to react. I just did not know how to react, and then realised my eyes were moist too...the concept just over took everything else.

The steps were novel and different, the use of sticks innovative. The performance was straight from the heart. Did Hussain miss steps...I think in the beginning there was some plus minus. Yet it was not something I could actually remember at the end of it.

My marks: 100/10. I have no words to describe how much I loved it.

I beg to disagree.
Looks like you are a hard core huti fan to overlook the fact there was no synchronisation esp in the 2nd performance.Tina was holding her hand to her chest and Hussain had his hand raised up.
It left me hugely disappointed.I'd have liked it if they were performing in 2nd or 3rd round but semis come on gotta be rocking.Concepts good but this is a dance competition.
