------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He had always had a thing for her, ever since the first time they had met and she had fisted her hands into the material of his t-shirt, her hazel brown eyes piercing into him challengingly. He liked her fire. She had a certain spunk about her that had peaked some interest in him. He knew she would not be an easy catch and that pursuing her would probably be the most difficult thing he would ever do, but he had always liked a challenge, especially ones with hazel brown eyes. He needed to find one of her weaknesses, something he could take advantage of in order to break through her hard exterior. Everybody had a weakness right? Right?
Wrong.
The longer he studied her from afar, trying to calculate how he could move in, it just became even more difficult trying to determine a weakness. She had even sneered at him once when she had caught him staring at her, growled would probably be more appropriate to describe the sound that had come out of her mouth. So he turned to DD for advice, on how to approach this rare species of girl. And how cool would it be if both Ali and him went on a double date with her and her best friend Ria. But while DD worked with him closely, he was not so up-to-date on relationships. Besides, he had always known Ria had a thing for Ali. So he went to Ali to seek wisdom. And he was instantly shut down.
"You're not her type."
He had stepped back a bit; Ali's words had been like a slap in the face. Ali had noticed the almost hurt look on his face and tried to rephrase what he had said, softening the blow by explaining he had not meant it like that.
"Well what did you mean?" He had asked accusingly. Ali had tried to laugh it off but he folded his arms, waiting for an answer. Their conversation was cut short as (speak of the devil) both her and Ria approached them.
"Hey guys," Ria chirped.
"Ali, two pohas please," Ananya nodded her head in Ali's direction, " Inspector," she said acknowledging him.
She smelled like vanilla he noted. He then felt Ali's arm on his shoulder, and immediately shrugged it off.
"Hey," Ali had said looking at him, "I'm sorry. You know what? Go for it."
Both girls could now feel the tension between the two boys and their eyes darted back and forth between the two, "Go for what?" questioned Ria.
Ananya had given him one more look and shook his head at Ali. "Nothing." Ananya's eyes narrowed but she did not question any further and she who disliked any type of awkwardness, broke the silence by grabbing onto Ali's arm, "Come on, we'll be late for the party. "See you later." She called out as she pulled Ali and Ria down the hall.
He watched as the three made their way down the hall. She had let go of Ali's arm and they walked side by side, and he noticed Ali bump his hip against her, which earned him a shove from Ananya. He could see the good naturedness in these actions and he did not fail to recognize the wide smile Ali gave her as she stuck out her tongue at him.
Was that a giggle he had just heard from her? But he didn't pay much attention to any of these things as he closed his locker and headed to work with DD. He needed to think of a new way to get through to her. It was time to go back to the drawing board.
What he did miss though was the lingering glances Ananya threw in his direction as they headed to the cabin.
