I don't think anyone besides Neela and DD know the truth. I remember during the Juhi expose Neil worried about Shweta's role so he may not have taken them into confidence. The way I see it Neil took a conscience choice that day to not only have Avni hate him but his family as well.

I am guessing they are being shown again because the focus will shift off jail and back onto Avni and Neil getting their lives together after being apart for six months. It will be about rebuilding relations while taking down Vidyut.
