It was all a set up to trap Daya nothing more. I don't think Neil ever had any intention of tracking down the real Ananya.

Due to that setup Daya came to know that Avni is alive the girl whom she thought is Ananya is actually Avni.

What did Neil get by exposing Avni's real identity in front of Daya?
