Hey folks! I am back with an OS inspired from my favorite show P.O.W.-Bandhi Yuddh Ke. But the characters in the OS bear no resemblance to characters of P.O.W or Naamkarann.
You may find instances in this one similar to stories already posted in the forum, but this a pure original work.
Neil isn't an ACP here, but a Leftanent and Avni is a lawyer by profession.
Do give your reviews.

AvNeil OS-The Homecoming

A Leftanent's life is not easy, especially when the country is under a threat of an attack.
I entered the house after six months. The last image of this house, my house was me stepping out from the threshold, Maa was tearful, Bebe and Papa had blessed me good luck. I had glanced at my wife, who was still in her wedding dress. She had lifted her eyes to meet mine and immediately looked down.

I looked at her as she looked in my eyes with a soft smile on her lips. Mom did the aarti and I bent down to touch her feet. She blessed me.

I followed her in the house. Bebe and Papa were over the moon. I took their blessings and greeted Neela Maa who patted my cheek.

I knew Avni was looking at me all along. I knew she had her apprehensions about last six months. I was called on a mission just after three hours after our marriage.

The neighboring country was suspected to attack through the border states any time. They did attack after a week and there we lost many of our soldiers. I was injured too, but I decided not to return till the situations were favorable for the residents of that area and last week, we received the orders to retreat.

I smiled at her. Bebe forced her to sit beside me, after sensing our awkward eyelocks. The others must have understood what Bebe was hinting at and exited the room.

"Hi," I spoke, just wanting to break the ice.
"Tum tired hue hoge naa? Tum fresh ho jaao, tab tak main Bheema Di ko help karti hoon," She spoke. I rolled my eyes.

Couldn't she get it? I wanted to spend time with her. But then, I was famished after the twelve hour journey. I simply nodded and went to my, sorry, our room.

The room was just the way I had left it, only, our wedding picture now had found it place between my pictures.Law books were placed on the table and a file was wide open.

"Ek country sirf tab tabaah nahi hoti jab koi foreign country uspe attack karti, par tab bhi tabaah hoti hai jab uss country mein law aur justice ek mazak sa ban jaata hai," This was Avni's belief and I agreed with her.

Avni and mine was an arranged marriage and we had met for a few times, other than during the rituals. I fell in love with her belief in truth and admired how she placed the law before anything.

During our calls in last six months, Papa would praise Avni too much, the way she supported my family in my absence was beautiful! The way she had been strong all this while made me fall for her, all over again!

We had an amazing dinner with Papa constantly flirting with Mom and Avni scolding Bebe for wanting to have an icecream inspite of suffering from cold.

"Neil, samjha naa apni beewi ko" Bebe cribbed. Before I could speak, Avni threw a sharp glance at me. I threw my hands in air in defeat and Avni smirked at Bebe. I couldn't help but notice how she had made her place in everyone's heart. Though Bebe was upset about the icecream, she was still smiling at Avni's concern for her.

Bebe looked at me and smiled. She signed at Avni who was laughing at Dad and Mom.
I nodded my head, understanding what she meant. I knew Avni had waited for six months for me, and also, she didn't deserve to wait.

I glanced up from the novel to look at the time. It was 12. I looked at Avni, who was reading the file. Her eyelids were heavy. Smiling, I went in the kitchen and prepared coffee for us.

I entered the room to see the that she had rested her head on the table and had dozed off. I wanted to pick her and lay her on the bed, but instead I patted on her shoulder. She woke up and looked at me in surprise.

"Coffee?" She nodded and took the coffee mug.
"Thanks, I so needed it!" She spoke as the aroma made her feel fresh.
"Agli hearing kab hai?" I asked as I looked at the file.
"Do Dino baad," She said, going back to file.

I held her hand, and she looked at me in surprise. Her brown orbs went wide with surprise.

"You should rest Avni," I said softly.
"Bas yeh file padh loon, then I'll sleep,"
She replied. She was tired, I could see it.

"Nahi, you better rest, get it?" I held her hand and forced her to stand. Giving up, she sat on the bed. Suddenly, the realization that she has to share the bed with me hit her.

"Avni, main jaanta hoon hum strangers se kam nahi hai, but we can work this out right? Tumne six months mere wait kiya, humare iss rishte ka wait kiya hai, give me a chance at least?" I said nervously.

"Neil, tumhara wait Karna meri koi majboori nahi thi, woh meri choice thi" She replied, maybe she was upset that I misunderstood her. I felt guilty about my words.

"Sorry, mere Kehna ka woh matlab nahi tha" I apologized.
She simply nodded.
"Avni, thank you," She looked at me in confusion.

"Main Mom ko jaanta hoon, I am sure, war ki baat jaanke woh bahut upset Hui hogi, aur Papa me bataya kaise tumne unhe sambhala"

"Tumhari Mom bahut strong hai Neil, woh jaanti hai, for you, its the country first," She replied as she adjusted the pillows.

"Aur tum?" She looked up. I wanted to know what she feels about me and our marriage.

"I don't know Neil, shaayad main utni strong nahin hoon. Mera waqt shaadi ke din se kabhi aage badha hi nahi, woh darr ki tumhe kho dungi, woh main yaad nahi Karna chahti hoon, please. Main bas inn palon Ko jeena chahti hoon, because main jaanti joon, ki tum phir ek baar chale jaaoge. Maine tumhe Bebe ki baaton mein, inn pictures mein dhoonda hai Neil, but it was still not easy and it will never be easy" She expressed her fears and lay on the bed her back facing me, probably hiding her tears.

If only you knew Avni, how I remembered you every day for last Six months. It wasn't easy to leave you then and neither is it easy to see you live with the fear of losing me.
But for me, it's the country first!
