Came across an article in the Newsline section of the Indian Express Delhi edition which seems to have some more details. It says that Mohan and Megha have separated. That Megha is distraught because of this which has made Nanhi hate Spiderman. That Mohan Bhatnagar is no longer a carefree journalist but a serious 40 year old social worker. And the article headline talks about why the team at NBT is willing to take the risk of changing the storyline so dramatically. And the article also has interviews of KKK and AS and both say that they are happy playing 40 year olds even though they are much younger in real life.
