Survey on Indian Television Industry-NYU Poly

Hi Folks,

I am a graduate student at NYU-Poly, doing research on the representation of women in Indian television, and am currently looking at the occupation of the female characters shown in the Hindi serials.

I would really appreciate it if people on this list could send me a few brief responses with the names of some of the key characters in this show and the occupation they hold (there can be more than one female character from a single serial) –even the serials which used to be aired in the 90s are welcome. Name of the serial: Na Aana is Des Laado

Name of the director: 😕

Name of the female character: Sia

Actress playing the role: Natasha Sharma

Her occupation: Sarpanch/Head/Leader of the Village

Any interesting details about her work: Well, she fought the elections and won against heavy opposition and threat. She is struggling the improve the status of women in the village, for women rights. And though this village is against the girl child, even practicing female infanticide, Sia is changing that custom. A strong character.

The director of this show is Dinesh Mahadev and the producer of the show is Shakuntalam Telefilms(Shyamsis Bhattacharaya and Neelima Bajpai).Guess this answers all the questions that elle didnt know
