Tinseltown Talk - August 20, 2007

August 20, 2007

Despite Aap Kaa Surroor, Himesh Reshammiya's debut film, bombing at the box office, the musical composer/singer is keen to continue acting.

Aside from bagging a role in the remake of Karz, produced by Bhushan Kumar, top dog at T-Series, and directed by Satish Kaushik, there is also a sequel to his debut film in the offing. The film is titled, Aap Kaa Suroor 2 - Ay Himeshbhai, and is produced by Vijay Taneja and directed by Prashant Chadha.

India FM caught up with Chadha to find out more on the sequel.

"You will be surprised to hear this, but we've already completed the paperwork of the sequel," he shared. "The scripting has been completed and we've decided to devote as much time as possible to the preproduction details since we've ample time on hand.

"We won't start till we're doubly sure of the sequel. The expectations are huge. Why act in haste and repent at leisure?

"We are not competing with the remake of Karz nor are we insisting that the sequel should be Himesh's second release. We're also keeping in mind the fact that Himesh has commitments to fulfill (shows, world tour, etc.)."

Hannsikaa does a music video
Posted on Monday, August 20, 2007 (EST)
Hannsikaa who made her big-screen debut as a heroine with Himesh Reshammiya in 'Aap Kaa Surroor-The Moviee', has featured in a music video directed by Divya Khosla Kumar.

21 Aug 2007 (Sawf News) - Hannsikaa (spelling changed, courtesy numerology) who made her big-screen debut as a heroine with Himesh Reshammiya in Aap Kaa Surroor-The Moviee, has featured in a music video directed by Divya Khosla Kumar.

The video Ishq Na Karna was shot in Mumbai and is the third video from the album Phir Bewafaai, where Hannsikaa has been paired opposite Gaurav Kakkar.

The song has been sung by Agam Kumar Nigam along with Tulsi Kumar. Divya Khosla Kumar has already directed an earlier video Woh Kisi Aur Se from the same album.

Says Hannsikaa, "I loved doing this music video. It was a great experience. Of course, I am looking for films now, but this music video is set to rock."

Divya Kumar Khosla chips in, "When I heard Agamji's album Phir Bewafaai, it touched and entered my soul; it was so haunting. Most of us go through betrayal in love. This feeling was something both of us could identify with and I wanted to create something very emotional AND touching, thus I worked on the concept of Ishq Na Karna."

Phir Bewafaai is a compilation of 10 romantic ballads with moving compositions written by Praveen Bharadwaj and Prashant Vasl. The music director is Nikhil while the choreographer is Seemaa Desai. The Cinematography is by Vinod Gandhi. The album is produced by T-Series.

Himesh fails to impress in Bommalattam

Saraswathy Srinivas

August 21, 2007 14:32 IST

After a long hiatus, director Bharathiraja is back with his bilingual (Tamil and Hindi) Bommalattam, starring Nana Patekar, Arjun, Kajal Agarwal and Rukmini Vijaykumar.

Scoring the music for the film is Bollywood's current favourite, Himesh Reshammiya, which obviously accounts for the Hindi film flavour in many of the tracks.

There is an explanatory prelude in chaste Tamil by the director, throwing insight into the theme of the film.

The five-track album opens with the number Oh Nenjil Dola Doliya, a romantic duet rendered by Tippu and Anuradha Sriram. It begins with guitar strains and western beats drifting into a melodious track. Tippu is his usual full-throated self, while Anuradha sings with boundless joy though in a lisping voice. The lyrics by Thenmozhidoss are full of soft sentiments.

Aaha Kannirendum by Karthik and Pop Shalini is a foot-tapping number in western style with pulsating percussion to Snehan's lyrics. The beats especially in the lively chorus and has enough zing to make you shake a leg. Karthik's vocal mobility is praiseworthy.

Following this is Va Va Thalaiva by Gayathri Iyer, which has a 'belle dance' feel to it. The sound design has a strong Arabian touch especially in instrumentation. The chorus towards the end almost rises in a crescendo and then slowly tapers off. Interludes are embellished with flute and violin strains. Percussion dominates. Joy Mallury's lyrics have sensuous overtones.

Koyambedu Beans synonymous with the theme and Cinema, the title of the Hindi version of the film glorifies cinema. The number is like a journey back into the seduction pieces of the 1950s. Lyrics by Vivega are pedantic and at times, turn philosophical. Instrumental interlude with the cascading strains of flute and guitar, and Mathangi's good voice modulation are the redeeming factors. The Arabian flavour in the instrumentation of the previous number continues not only in this track but the following Check Check Checkda too.

Rendered by Suchithra, Check Check Checkda is an energetic piece with lyrics by Thenmozhidoss. Suchithra's bubbling effervescence coupled with vigorous percussion and western beats heighten the mood.

To conclude, Reshammiya's maiden attempt at Tamil music tries to conjure a youthful fare by employing trendy beats and contemporary style but hardly rises to exemplary heights.

Rediff Rating: 2 n a half stars

Himesh isn't bad at all:Abhijeet

22 Aug 2007, 0000 hrs IST,PIALI DASGUPTA ,TNN
Print Save EMail Write to Editor

Abhijeet Sawant (TOI Photo)
Abhijeet has made his foray into playback singing with films like Jawani Deewani and Aashiq Banaya Aapne (Mar Jawa) which had Himesh Reshammiya composing the tracks.

He's back from the freezing climes of Ladakh after shooting his latest album. And that's one experience Abhijeet Sawant won't forget in a long time. "We had breathing trouble and headaches because of the high altitude.

It was difficult shooting there. But the location was mindblowing. The director was particular about shooting in a no-man's land, to give the song the right mood," he says. Not just solo albums, Abhijeet has made his foray into playback singing with films like Jawani Deewani and Aashiq Banaya Aapne (Mar Jawa ) which had Himesh Reshammiya composing the tracks. He's also sung for a Kannada film.

So what does he think of Reshammiya's music? "I like Himesh's work. He isn't bad at all. He's a great composer," he comments .

Film offers have also come his way, but Abhijeet says he isn't ready for Bollywood yet. "I'm reading a couple of scripts, but I'm not happy with the kind of roles offered to me. I'm looking for bigger banners and better scripts," he explains.

Quiz him about how he spent the one crore prize money after winning the reality show and Sawant sounds very practical. "I've invested the money in buying property." Talking about the contest that proved to be a turning point in his life, he says, reality shows were much more "real" back then. "Things are a lot more commercialised now. People make big issues out of everything. But the present lot of talent shows are producing bigger talents," he comments.

About the showdown amongst judges in the talent shows, he feels these amuse the audience. "The judges mostly fight for the contestants, but I don't think they have any favourites," he says.

Sawant acknowledges the significance of music videos for marketing his music."It's important to shoot a proper music video since it represents your song. The singer also gets attention because of the video," he says.

And if it's videos one needs to be featured in, he better look presentable , feels Sawant. "I'm not saying one needs to be good-looking in order to be a singer. But today singers are treated like stars. And one needs to look presentable for all this," he says.

So was he one up against his competitor Amit Sana because he was more presentable ? "The other contestants were all better looking than me. But that didn't get them the trophy. So, looks can't be the deciding factor. I know some people felt it was my looks that gave me an edge over Sana, but that's not true." And isn't he seeing someone or is she too his "good friend" ? "Unfortunately, I'm single. Those are rumours. I wasn't seeing anyone," he says.

His Himeshness's three-in-one offer
By: Tushar Joshi
August 22, 2007
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------
Reshammiya will act, sing and compose in films for a price: Rs 5 crore!

Himesh Reshammiya is charging a whopper — Rs 5 crore — to act, sing and compose music for films.

After his acting debut Aap Kaa Surroor, Reshammiya has decided to concentrate on one film at a time rather than take on several projects.

A source reveals, "Himesh is flooded with offers. The success of his maiden project has proved his detractors wrong. In fact, he recently confirmed that he would compose and sing for all the projects he acts in.

He wants to do quality work. The amount he's quoting is not just for acting, but composing the soundtrack and doing playback as well."

Even though Himesh refuses to talk about this development, the source adds that the coming days will see a series of announcements from him.

"There are a couple of projects that will be unveiled in the coming days.

Besides the sequel to Aap Kaa Surroor and the remake of Subhash Ghai's Karz by T-Series (in which he plays Rishi Kapoor's character), Reshammiya has already signed a couple of other films."

Varma's 'Darling' has some hummable numbers
Meghna Menon [Wednesday, August 22, 2007]
Email this article.

It seems director Ram Gopal Varma is keen to be different with his film music; hence he has roped in Pritam as the main composer for the soundtrack of his film "Darling".

And keeping in mind the kind of music Pritam composes, it is not difficult to guess what "Darling" would be like. Himesh Reshammiya and Prasana Shekhar appear as guest composers.

Already hitting the screens and creating waves is Reshammiya's "Tadap tadap", sung by him and Tulsi Kumar. The Tulsi-Himesh pairing works well in this song, as in earlier film songs, establishing them as a successful pair.

"Aa khushi se khudhkhushi kar le", a Pritam-composed number, has some weird lyrics by Sameer. However, the song turns out to be different in terms of composition - with peppy and Westernised music - and catches the hearer's attention.

A song that deserves mention is "Akele tanha" by Pritam, which surprisingly has Tulsi taking charge of the vocals single-handedly. The track is definitely an attempt at creating music that is completely different. Sameer's lyrics, too, take a turning point from the last song and are quite good.

Keeping in mind the theme of the film, Prasanna Shekhar has created a haunting song "Awaaz koi". It is possible that the number may end up being the one with which people identify "Darling" with.

Next is a surprise in the form of a romantic number, "Hasaye bhi rulaye bhi". Though quite catchy, it might not have a long shelf life.

There is "Saathiya", which is really good. It's USP lies in the Adnan Sami-Pritam combination. With Tulsi Kumar, Adnan weaves some pure magic to the track, giving it the right dose of sensuality, romance and melody. The rhythm is engrossing too.

By the end of it all, what gives "Darling" a reason to be liked by the audience is that all tracks have something different to their credit and each starts on a completely new note.

Definitely, an album to be heard -- at least once!
