Reshammiya to play Rishi Kapoor in 'Karz' remake

MUMBAI: After the success of his debut film 'Aap Kaa Surroor', composer-singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya is ready to face the camera once again for the remake of the 1977 musical blockbuster 'Karz'.

Reshammiya is going in for makeover for his role in the remake of Subhash Ghai's film, which is being produced by T-Series. He will be seen dancing, singing and performing to self-composed songs sans his famous cap.

"At the moment I can only say I'm planning my look and performance. And yes this time I want to win over the critics as well," Reshammiya said.

The evergreen Laxmikant-Pyarelal songs from Ghai's blockbuster will be replaced by Reshammiya's tunes. And if we keep in mind the fact that Reshammiya is one of the biggest Laxmikant-Pyarelal fans, we have much to look forward to in the new 'Karz'.

Giving details on the project, producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series said, "Yes we've purchased the remake rights of Subhash Ghai's timeless classic 'Karz' with Himesh playing Rishi Kapoor's part. Himesh has already started working on a new look for the film.

"This will be his first release after 'Aap Kaa Surroor'. The rest of the cast and director are yet to be decided. Our 'Karz' will be trans-located to contemporary times with a fresh musical score by Himesh with whom T-Series has always gelled."

"We'd have loved Ghai to direct the remake. But he refused arguing he doesn't need to go back to one of his films when he's brimming over with fresh ideas. We'll decide on the director in a week's time," added Kumar.

Eager audiences and filmi pundits alike have been wondering what to expect from him next


Himesh Reshammiya seems poised to doff his trademark cap for his next film. What's more, he's gone ahead and named the film Aap Ka Surroor -Ay Himesh Bhai. And the creative excuse behind the rather narcissistic name is that it will enable audiences to connect better with him.

After Himesh Reshammiya made his debut with Aap Ka Surroor , eager audiences and filmi pundits alike have been wondering what to expect from him next.

And Himesh, in his characteristic style, has not only decided to come up with a sequel to his debut film but has also decided to name it after himself.

Titled Aap Ka Surroor- Ay Himesh Bhai , the film is not just an example of the singer/ composer/ actor's narcissistic streak. Himesh, apparently will play himself in the film. He will sport two looks in the film, one of which will be minus his trademark cap.

Prashant Chadha, director of the film, says, I have been with Himesh right from his first video and understand him very well. I even know what he means to his fans. They will instantly connect with Himesh Bhai and hence the title.

As for his look, Prashant says, Himesh will have two distinct looks in the film. I don't want to reveal much at this point. As the director of the film, I will also attempt to make a film of a different genre.

We aspire to take Himesh to a different level. With Ay Himesh Bhai, we will prove just that. It is also a challenge for me considering that from promos to music videos to films, it is a mighty leap.

Himesh, you are indeed turning rather humble these days, given your current 'robotic' dance moves (the limited ones that we got to witness in Aap kaa Surroor) you definitely need a dance teacher on an urgent basis!

Reshammiya has been asked to lose weight and learn dancing for his role in the Karz remake

The formerly tubby Himesh Reshammiya has lost a considerable amount of weight ever since he turned actor. And now, to fit into Rishi Kapoor's shoes in the Karz remake, he's going to have to shed some more excess baggage.

Says a source, "Himesh will have to tone up his body and even learning dancing. Rishi Kapoor danced superbly in Karz, so Himesh will have to get some terrific rhythm as a dancer."

T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar admits that Himesh will have to have some dramatic changes to get into the skin of the character. "Himesh will lose about ten kilos with the help of a personal trainer. When Karz was made, Rishi Kapoor was very young. That's precisely why Himesh needs to lose weight," says Kumar.

"He will have also take lessons from a dance instructor. Himesh has given me two to three options and we will soon decide who will teach him," Kumar adds.

What about Himesh' trademark cap? A source from T-Series says, "It has still not been decided whether Himesh will wear a cap or not."

We learn that T-Series does not plan to retain the haunting melodies of Karz. "Himesh has started working on something new.

He realises what he's up against. Karz won the Best Music award in 1980, and Om Shanti Om was the first Hindi song to be played at local discos," the source adds.
