January 21'st was the death anniversary of noted singer Narendar Chanchal.

A find of Raj Kapoor he debuted in blockbuster Bobby with a blockbuster song Beshak Mandir Masjid todo. Though he gave quite a few hit songs he was mainly known for his iconic Bhajans and Bhakti songs. His autobiography is The Midnight Singer.

He recounts an interesting fact in his life.

After the success of Bobby, he visited a Devi Mata temple where he used to sing Bhajans before Raj Kapoor discovered. However after the success of Bobby he thought Bhajans were not his style. The same night he lost his voice. He underwent treatment for sometime and regained his voice. But taking this a sign from Mata Raani he went back to bhajans and completely signed off from singing any film songs though he did some iconic Bhajans in movies after that life changing incident.

What has surprised me is that no one has recommended his name even for a Padamshri, IMO he deserves a Padmabhushan.

I have no idea who he is sir , but that is a very interesting anecdote from his life, must have been scary for a singer to lose his voice. I will chect out his songs on YouTube.

Where to start with this absolute legend, this national & global treasure?

It's an impossible task to list out my favorite Lata songs - the list would be interminably long.

That being said, for me personally, Lata from the late 40s to mid 60s RULES!

I will always prefer her earlier songs to her later ones though she has sung some brilliant songs all through her long career.
