I am happy to know that a special CD, audio cassette and informative booklet on the National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana 2000" is being produced to commemmorate the Golden Jubilee of the Indian Republic. This Unique musical randition of the National Anthem, which is a collaborative effort of many great maestros of India, is a fitting artistic tribute to all those who stuggled and sacrifised for the establishment of our Republic. Our country has a priceless musical and visual arts tradition going back to the vedic times. What adds to our pride is its living nature and its quality to harmonise diverse melodies into a symphonic synthesis, which contributes to our national unity. This is bourne out by immortal song composed by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. It is also attested by the engaging recreation of Jana Gana Mana in a video form with the participation of Pandit Bhimsen joshi, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Lata Mangeshkar, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Dr. D. K. Pattamal, Pandit Jasraj, A. R. Rahaman, and others. I congratulate Shri Bharatbala and Shri A. R. Rahman who have earlier colloborated to promote the spirit of Vande Mataram, for this commendable new producion. | ||

Anything is possible in Bombay Dreams… |
Bombay-Mumbai: one city with two names. |
Akaash and Priya: two lovers from different worlds, sharing one dream. Young slum-dweller Akaash dreams of becoming a huge movie star. His fateful encounter with beautiful, strong-willed Priya and her father, powerful but corrupt movie mogul Madan, seals his destiny. Akaash can achieve his dream of stardom but at a price. Is he prepared to lose the people essential to the past which defines but now haunts him? Will Akaash and Priya's love survive? Will they find, like in all the best Bollywood movies, their happy ending? Andrew Lloyd Webber, world-famous for creating ground breaking musical entertainment, is producing Bombay Dreams, one of the most eagerly awaited theatrical events of 2002. When he first heard the music of A R Rahman, Andrew Lloyd Webber instinctively felt he was listening to the music of a "melodic genius" and invited Rahman to collaborate on the creation of a new stage musical. Rahman is a phenomenon in his native India where he is best known for the thrilling scores to such movies as Roja, Lagaan and Dil Se. India's greatest ambassador in the world of music, Rahman is one of the most exciting young composers of our time. With book by Meera Syal (Bhaji on the Beach, Goodness Gracious Me, Anita and Me) and lyrics by Don Black (Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard), Bombay Dreams promises fantasy and glamour, epic spectacle and heart-aching romance, and a uniquely new musical voice for the West End. |

Vanessa-mae: Choreography
Choreography is not only Vanessa-Mae's debut recording on the Sony Classical label, but far most marks her return to the field where classical music is combined with modern influences to a mix that some define with the rather limiting label of 'classical crossover music.' After an explorative outing to pure pop on her most recent album 'Subject To Change,' Vanessa-Mae returns to the style she so successfully defined and explored as no other artist did. 'Choreography' is a sensational multi-cultural journey into dance rhythms from all over the globe. Composers with diverse backgrounds, but all with worldwide fame and acclaim, must be credited for the music on this album. Their compositions are all based on well known dance themes, but are yet very original in their elaboration. All tracks are exciting, surprising and dynamic. Whoever expects an easy listing album will find oneself be disappointed. Who listens to Choreography will find lots of recognition of the basic dance themes, but will also by no doubt be touched by the beautiful violin parts of Vanessa-Mae, the great and overwhelming orchestral movements, and nice, sometimes subtle, sensational or even funny, accompaniment of traditional instruments used for the music from that particular part of the world.

Raga's Dance - A.R Rahman
Raga's Dance is a composition is which the mystical Asian moods are raised. Fine violin play is constructed around the orchestral movement. Vocals are also used effectively to create the Asian mood.
