Kamal Hassan calls Himesh Reshammiya
By Vickey Lalwani 2006 Bollyvista.com
Reshammiya says that he would be comfortable in giving music for Tamil lyrics. "I will start working on it in the next 30-45 days." 'Dasavatharam', produced by V. Ravichandran and directed by K.S. Ravikumar, is being readied in Tamil and Hindi. |
Javed Speak
Lyricist Javed Akhtar speaks of matters close to his heart… music, Mumbai and more
Subhash K Jha
Javed Akhtar is one busy man these days. After a relatively quiet 2005, Akhtar is back doing what he does best. "I have JP Dutta's Umrao Jaan and Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna lined up one after another. I hope people like my work."
Speaking of Umrao Jaan, he says, "It was a special challenge primarily because it was a remake. People still listen to songs from Umrao Jaan. I had to write poetry for mujras. In fact I wrote a whole song in pure Awadhi. Both the music of KANK and Umrao Jaan will be released at about the same time. And they're both so dissimilar!" he points out.
Talking of Umrao Jaan the conversation veers towards Rekha. Akhtar confesses that he doesn't think much of Rekha as an actress. However he is going ga-ga over her performance in Krissh. "I've never been a Rekha fan. But I like her immensely in Krissh. Unka rona hasna sab heroine ka hota hai. (She laughs and cries like a heroine) But the way she weeps in Krissh is truly worth applauding. Krissh is one of those films that usher in a new era in Indian cinema. Even in terms of special effects, Krissh has set new standards."
Akhtar is also working with Himesh Reshammiya for Namaste London. Speaking of this unusual teaming up… "Himesh will surprise everyone with this set of songs. All the tunes are done in the bandish tradition."
The lyricist says that he is moved by Akbar Asif's gesture of cancelling the whole trip to Pakistan because his visa was cancelled. "It is very courageous on Asif's part to cancel an event that had already cost him a lot of money. When from all the delegates only my visa was cancelled suddenly without providing any reason whatsoever, I was dumbstruck. Later they decided to reissue it, but by then Akbar had decided to call off the trip. What a pity!" he says.
The lyricist is also stunned by the Reader's Digest's claim of Mumbai being the rudest city. He lashes out, "I came to Mumbai on October 4, 1954. Since then this city has given me everything. So I was taken aback when Readers' Digest called it a rude city. Mumbai is a no-nonsense city. We may not have time for niceties. But when it comes to showing solidarity we're right on the top. Look at how compassionate people were during last year's floods! I guess they're (the magazine) hostile to anyone who is anti-US."
ppl on Himesh Reshammiya...
Realisation strikes....…Himesh Reshammiya!!!!!!!
& their comments :
Yeah, there is something about his nasal sound, that makes me want to hear his songs, at home, online, in the car, wherever I go.
Although the tunes sounds alike, its really catchy and I luv it hehehePosted by Nena at Thursday, June 29, 2006 21:18:30
I thought the songs sound quiet different...I actually love his older work in HUMRAAZ and TERE NAAM too!

Is he bigger than Jesus? That's what I wanna know..

I agree with Akshay that all of Himesh's tunes are likable.
I wanted to hate Ahista Ahista after hearing it for the first time, as I though it was similar to Humko Deewana.... but I heard a second time and totally loved it.
Even the music for his latest Dil Diya Hai is a sure fire hit. Loved the song I heard in the promoPosted by Sandy at Friday, June 30, 2006 07:27:07

STEALingtheir THUNDER? Soha Ali Khan and Abhay Deol |
Deol and co-star Soha Ali Khan refused to shoot for a music video featuring Reshammiya in their latest film, Ahista Ahista
Sandipan Dalal

Producer Anjum Rizvi and debutant director Shivam Nair were at the receiving end when the otherwise humble Abhay Deol and Soha Ali Khan put their foot down and refused to shoot a music video for their forthcoming film Ahista Ahista. The cause of the disagreement ranges from a choc-o-bloc schedule to music director Himesh Reshammiya being a part of the video. Sources inform that the lead pair Deol and Khan didn't feel the need of an independent music video for the title track featuring Reshammiya.
Tight schedule
Deol attributes it to the lack of time and work pressure. "We had plans to wrap up shooting for the film by May 8. In fact, all of us were working for more than 16 hours every day at Lonavala to meet our deadline. But it didn't help us and we finally managed to complete it on May 10. Himesh was shooting for the video on May 8 in a city studio and it wasn't logical to come to town for it and again go back. So it was a collective decision that Soha and I are not going to be a part of the video."
However, Rizvi admits, "It is true that we had a difference of opinion with the cast over shooting a separate video. But it was sorted out and there's no bad blood among us. Himesh has been doing the best that he can for the film and so are Abhay and Soha."
A crewmember further informs, "Abhay and Soha had a problem with Himesh being a part of the video. They had made it clear that if Himesh was seen crooning in the video then they wouldn't be a part of it. Even after much discussion Anjum and Shivam couldn't convince them. Abhay had openly voiced his displeasure saying that he didn't want any typical Himesh video for the film."
Meanwhile, director Nair had to do with footage from the film along with the shots of Reshammiya.
Covering it up
The differences have led to the cancellation of a music launch party and a completion party more than once. Says Deol, "We haven't had a wrap up party yet."
When quizzed about his alleged fallout with Himesh, he says, "I really don't know from where you have heard this. I'm quite grateful to Himesh bhai for composing the songs Ahista Ahista and Allah Kare. Why should I have a problem with him?"
On the other hand Reshammiya remained unaware about it. "I don't think there was a video planned with Abhay, Soha and me. Our aim is to see that the film does well and not concentrate on such trivial matters."

overprotected? Himesh Reshammiya |
Chained melody
Himesh Reshammiya has always maintained that he owes his success to God, his father and Salman Khan — strictly in that order. A firm believer in the Almighty, it came as no surprise when we spotted the music sensation with several religious pendants around his neck. "The lockets and threads are from Shirdi, Siddhivinayak, Shreenathji and Ajmer. I feel protected with them," he says.
The composer-singer leaves for his world tour later this month and mentions that at last count, he has had 31 hits in the past six months. "After Phir Hera Pheri, Ahista Ahista is next on the charts," he declares.
Some lesson in arithmetic for us!
