I too think that Garv wants Gauri as a stepping stone into the Bhonsle family. Once he has a legal foot in the door he will try and find more dark kaands of AS. He already knows from his meeting with Asavari that they want to dispatch Gauri off ASAP, Gauri is the Bhonsle daughter whereas Shivangi is Ranjeet's daughter and so technically not a Bhonsle - heir point of view.
