ok friends actually BASANT PANCHAMI is a great festival of punjabi's.
and it is celebrated with zor and shor in punjab.
and it is also the wedding day of lord vishnu and goddess laxmi.
on basant panchmi people wears yellow dress,eat yellow food like yellow rice,makke ki roti which is also yellow,yellow vegetables,yellow halwa etc. etc.

actually it is celebrated mainly in punjab because of the mustard crops.

Bhawana I would like to add one more thing here. This festival is celebrated by farmers to celebrate the first crop. Also this is the time when the mustard plants are on full bloom. They cook ceremonial yellow rice on this day ( I also made it at home as it just went by) Students pray to goddess saraswati as it is considered her day as well.

i don't know about the students prey to goddess saraswati.
it is celebrated in February mostly .
this year it was held on 31 january.
