Miley Jab Hum Tum
A show set in the back drop of a college, had a youth and a fun appeal to it and attempted to break the norm of the telly world, which was heavily flooded with the saas-bahu shows and family dramas. The show revolved around the story of two lead couples, coming from completely different backgrounds, having totally different approach towards life, and how they meet and their journey together starts.
Of these four people, playing the main leads of the show, three were not new in the industry. They had prior experience of working and already had a considerable fan base. The fourth person, was a debutant here, and was stepping into the telly world for the first time with this show.
Being a lead, a lot of responsibility lay on his shoulders ' he was one of the main faces of the show and he had to make a mark if both he and the show were to survive ' for this industry believes in "survival of the fittest". Not only this - the character he had to portray, wasn't easy at all. He started off as the modern, stylish, handsome, cool dude, the life and soul of his college, a failure at studies but a charming, magnetic personality who attracted the admiration of all the girls and the respect of almost all the guys, whose life was fun, parties and friends, and who made everyone fall in love with him.
Dream boy and Prince Charming for every girl, yet committed to none, a loveable rogue ' at first look, a superficial character, even a clichd one - but as the show gathered pace, the layers of his personality were revealed slowly, and more and more was revealed under that charming surface ' yes, Samrat Shergill was a complicated character, a character who during the course of the show went through a myriad of emotions, an evolution, a life's journey in two years - a dream character for any debutante to play.
And Samrat has been played to perfection by our birthday boy - the immensely talented
Mohit Sehgal.
It's unimaginable to even think of anyone else in that role today, so firmly has Mohit made it his own. When Mohit started, he was raw, unimpressive to most (including myself) ' he took time to find his feet, establish both himself and his character, Samrat. And today, the same people who criticiesd him are full of his praises, and are his unabashed adoring fans. Praises not only for Samrat ' the character Samrat would be a dream lover for any girl *sigh* ' but for Mohit Sehgal ' the boy who stepped into tellyworld with nothing but his hard work, his talent, his drive and his determination to reach for the stars ' and today he stands with that success well within his grasp ' he has truly made his mark, and a name for himself. But he still retains his humility, his modesty, his sincerity and his down to earth nature. Mohit would probably be the first to acknowledge that MJHT is only the first step ' he still has far to go ' but with his drive and determination, his talent and his capacity for hard work, ' as they say ' Well Begun is Half Done... and he has begun well ... very well indeed!
Mohit's grown as an actor as can be gauged by the fact that many of his earlier critics have become his firm fans, and his earlier fans have become even more crazy about him! He has evolved into an intelligent thinking actor, one who has given his viewers scenes that blew us away, memories of Samrat that can never fade, and this shows the strength of Mohit's own character and his passion about his work. His evolution during Season One of MJHT was fascinating to watch ' from a charming superficial boy who never took anything or anyone seriously, he evolved into a more mature, thinking boy, a firm friend who would go out of his way for his friends, ... and from a confirmed flirt who never took girls seriously, he became a committed boyfriend and completely dedicated lover boy, so much so that when it was thought Gunjan could or would die, one thing was certain ' Samrat would either jump of a cliff and end his own life, or live single ever after ' even the possibility of another girl coming into his life was unthinkable. His grief and anguish during Gunjan's accident was completely amazing and had us all in tears - and his dedication to bring Gunjan back to her feet made us all believe in the power of love all over again - and love him even more!
And with special mention to Season two of MJHT ' S2 belonged to Samrat, he was THE actor of this season. His transformation from a carefree boy to a MAN, from a reckless, don't-care lover boy to a man buried under guilt and grief, lost without his love and his friends ' he portrayed the change brilliantly ' with his look, his body language, his dialogue delivery ' everything changed, everything evolved ' and he made us feel his pain, his sorrow as though it was our own ' the mark of a truly gifted actor. It will always be our regret that the Season Two story was cut short and not allowed to reach its natural conclusion, because the storyline gripped us completely, and that was chiefly because of the portrayal of the changed Samrat and Gunjan ' the two have to go together! 😆 Season Two brought many silent readers to life ' as we spent hours grieving with this new Samrat ' hats off to Mohit for portraying the change so brilliantly!
' as Bhavesh, as SSC ' we loved him for those too ' his versatility shows in the mini role-within-a-role acts ' a true entertainer, a true actor!
As for Mohit, the person ' through his interviews on SBS, SBB and others, his personality shines ' he's as much a contrast to his onscreen image of Samrat as Sanaya is to Gunjan! He's sweet, simple, soft-spoken and down to earth, and over the years he has retained his modesty and charm, while growing more confident and outgoing. His success, while giving him confidence and added maturity, has not gone to his head, he is the first to state that MJHT has made him, and he retains his sweet nature and humility. Some things he has in common with Samrat though ' his positivity and charm, and the sweetness of his smile ' his friendship with Arjun/Mayank ' and the biggie ' the way he pampers and cares for his lady love, Sanaya 😳
Sanaya and Mohit are truly a made-for-each-other couple, and we, their fans hope and pray for their happiness and togetherness always. 😊
So here's wishing Mohit, a Very Happy Birthday and many happy returns of the day. May this day bring every happiness in your life and you get whatever you desire and have dreamt of. Have a wonderful birthday and a wonderful life. Wish you every success, happiness and prosperity, and all the best for all your future endeavors. Your fans are eagerly waiting to see you back on their screens. God bless!!!
