TV heartthrob Mohit Sehgal, who plays college lover boy Samrat on Star One's Miley Jab Hum Tum, is on cloud 9 these days after realising how much his fans actually love him. He says, "It feels great to know that my fans actually make it a point to watch the repeat telecast of the show – Miley Jab Hum Tum." If you too are one of his crazy fans, read on to find out all that you ever wanted to know about Mohit:
How did you enter the field of acting?
Since the very beginning, I was attracted to the glamour world and always dreamt of becoming an actor. Soon after my graduation, I started helping my dad in his real estate business but wasn't really happy doing it. It took me three long years to convince my dad to allow me to act. I am basically from Delhi, so after my dad was convinced, I came down to Mumbai, gave my auditions and got selected for a role in the film Delhi Heights. After that I did a few commercials and was then offered a lead role in Miley Jab Hum Tum on Star One.
Did you always know that you wanted to be an actor?
Well, yes. I always wanted to be an actor, but wasn't really sure if I could really be one. I just tried my luck and here I am.
If not an actor, what would you have been?
I would have joined my dad's business.
Tell us about your experience in Delhi Heights.
Well, I was new in the industry then but working in Delhi Heights was a very good experience, since I got a lead role to play in the film. Also, I think Delhi Heights was a good start for my acting career. I also learnt a lot from my costars while working on the film.
How does it feel now that Miley Jab Hum Tum is a huge hit and you've become so famous?
It feels great to know that so many people love me and watch the show without fail. I was really happy to know that some of my fans actually make it a point to even watch the repeat telecast. Moreover, I'm happy about the fact that it's my first show onscreen and people already like me so much.
Are you like Samrat in real life?
No way! (laughs Mohit) I'm not like Samrat in any way. I'm a very family-oriented guy and a simple person. I love spending time with my parents. I'm not really a party freak and all the girls don't really hit on me.
In the serial you're an excellent sportsman. Is it the same off-screen as well?
Well, yes you can say that. I love playing basketball. I was a good basketball player in school. It was actually a coincidence that I got to play a role where the character is a good basketball player. Since I'm already good at the sport, it was easy for me.
Who's your favourite costar in the serial?
I can't really name one person. I like all three of them. It's good fun working together. When I was new, I found it difficult to adjust and be friends with them but with time, we all became good friends. We all eat, work and have fun together. And trust me, today we're more like a family. I'm very close to all my costars in the serial.
What kind of chemistry do you share with your onscreen partner Gunjan in real life?
We're very good friends off-screen, but there's absolutely nothing cooking between us in real life. We're just friends.
How does it feel when people recognise you while you're walking down the road?
Ah! I can't tell you how nice it feels to know that I'm a known actor now. There's a long way to go still! Initially, when I started working in Miley Jab Hum Tum, I used to think: Will people like me? Will they recognise me when I go out? Will people come to me asking for autographs? Trust me, it feels very good that the show has become such a huge hit and, because of it, people know me now.
Do you plan to act in films in the near future?
If a good project comes up, I wouldn't mind acting in films. But currently, I'm just concentrating on my show. I haven't signed any other show or film.
What's your current relationship status?
(Laughs) I'm single and not ready to mingle!
If given a chance to work in a film, which actress would you want to work with?
Well, I would love to work with Katrina Kaif, Rani Mukherjee or Kajol but I don't know if they would like to work with me as well.
