The sets of Star Plus daily, Miilee on Monday evening saw prominent members of the cast and crew staging a dharna. An early pack-up threw the shoot out of gear.
"Around 8.30 pm, a furious Kiran Kumar took centre stage and voiced slogans against the producers of the show. He refused to shoot and collected signatures from everyone, intending to send it to the channel," says an eyewitness. Kuch gadbad hai
The point of conflict? The delay in the payments for the past few months. Says Kiran, "I didn't mastermind the agitation. I just stood by our workers.
It's unfair if they are deprived of their daily wages. The payments have been getting postponed and most of the cheques bounced. Nothing personal against our producers. I just expect a little compassion towards our workers from them."
He further says, "Initially, when Miilee started, we didn't take a single penny for about 10 months. I encouraged my co-stars to stand by the producers. Our payments were settled later, but we are yet to receive our remuneration for the months of Nov to Jan."
Mona Wasu, confirms the payment related furore. "My contract is directly with the channel and I've been getting my payments on time. But most of the artists have been complaining about the delay." My actor's insecure
Producer Vinta Nanda attributes it to Kumar's personal insecurity, as his character (Vishaal Rastogi) is being bumped. Says Nanda, "We had assured Kiran that his character was not ending. That he will reappear after five episodes.
His insecurity led him to spearhead this strike easily as there was a slight delay in the payments to our workers. He even refused to take my repeated calls when I tried to reach him after the chaos on the sets. It was completely uncalled for, and Kiran claims to be my friend." Kumar: Miilee zindabad
When quizzed about remedial measures, Nanda rules out the possibility of showing a revolting Kumar the door. "I don't think we are replacing him. I simply hope he realises the blunder he has done," she says. Kumar revealed his intentions to resume shooting. "I'll not be insincere to my work. Miilee should not get affected at any cost. I'm not at all insecure as I have five other prime time shows, apart from my films. As an actor, I have all the right to know about the developments in the plot and you can't brand it as insecurity," he says. |
