In a shocking development, the body of kidnapped 16-year-old, Adnan Patrawala, has been found this evening (August 20) by police, inside his own vehicle in the upmarket Palm Beach road near Panvel, Mumbai.
Preliminary reports suggest the boy was strangled to death as early as this morning, according to police.
Sixteen-year-old Adnan Patrawala had been missing for more than 2 days when his parents reportedly received a ransom call of Rs 2 crore for their son's safe return. Conspiracy theories suggested that the whole kidnapping was staged.
Adnan was a Class XII student studying in CWC college in Mumbai. He was last seen on Saturday (August 18) at his residence in Oshiwara in suburban Mumbai, before he left to meet his friends. The police lodged an abduction case after his worried parents registered a complaint.
Three suspects in the case - Raj, Lala and Himanshu - who were Adnan's friends, have been detained so far and police sources say Himanshu is being seen as the mastermind of the kidnapping.
Police say they are also following another lead - before he went missing, Adnan had apparently exchanged internet 'scraps' with an anonymous friend calling herself 'Angel' using the community website, Orkut. In the messages, the last of which were sent just before Adnan disappeared, 'Angel' asks him to meet her at Inorbit Mall in Malad. However, police refuse to confirm whether 'Angel' is also a suspect in the boy's murder. A look at the chat transcript suggests that Adnan did not know Angel very well and sources say Angel could be a fake ID used as a modus operandi by the killers to lure the boy.
