Every year on June 5th, United Nations brings awareness of the environment, worldwide. The World Environment Day slogan selected for 2007 is...
Melting Ice – a Hot Topic?
This is in support of the International Polar Year. This time, the U.N wants to focus on the affect climate change is having on polar bears and their environments.
Here is an explanation of why places like Antarctica are ACTUALLY melting AWAY!!:
- This is called Global warming.
That's why it's making icy environments like Antarctica "melt away."
But THERE ARE other ways to produce energy. Wind mills, are one type of renewable resource. All put together, we do have the money, and Canada (other countries, also) has the land…so what's happening? Well, THERE ARE wind mills, but not enough. And actually, in the future there are supposed to be more. But...when will that future come?
1. So there is a way the use of fossil fuels can be reduced, but the question is will we follow?
- If the current rate of ice shrinkage and related weight loss continues, bears may become so thin by 2012 that they may no longer be able to reproduce.
2. So will we have to say good buy to these mammals as well? Will the Polar Bears also be extinct FOREVER?
3. What are your thoughts on the Polar bear's home? Don't you think they have much right to live on their land, the way it is, as we do?
- The ice is as important for them as our sun is for us.
Just imagine…if the sun was disappearing drastically day after day. Just imagine…how would they feel?
Ask a polar bear, and he'll tell you. Or he might just show you…
Global Warming, affects not only animals, but humans as well.
Here's leaving you with one final thought:
- That means more floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and other disasters.
Doesn't it spell doom for the whole world too? The problem is most of us know about this and choose to ignore it.
"What can I do for a problem in Antarctica" is a commom excuse.
Well the problem in Antarctica is because of us so only we can stop it.
Antarctica melting away, is a cause of Global Warming, and if Global Warming can do that, than after it's done with Antarctica...it can move on.
