- Mark Haddon
From Bedtime stories to Fictions, from Grammar Books to Mythological Content, Books has been a part of our life since we started to get to know the world. It has been one of the key sources of knowledge and plays a vital role in our life.
Books are a massive, distributed archive of the history of reading, hidden in plain sight in the circulating collections. Marginalia, inscriptions, photos, original manuscripts, letters, drawings, and many other unique pieces of historical data can be found in individual copies... Each book has to be opened and examined... Books contains different contents, themes and characterizations which connects with a reader in different levels of psychological and emotional aspects and creates a world in its own...
In this Kindle era, somewhere the core of the book has taken the tilt and more often the exaggerated publicity gimmicks takes precedence over the plot of the book.
A particular genre has evolved in these years and quite a significant change has been seen in the world of fiction.
Now a days po*nographic and violent content is gaining more prominence with every passing year. Trade analysts noticed that Sexual Objectification sells today and they are using this in favour by highlighting the same content in the book in order to increase the sale.
For Instance, books like Fifty Shades of Grey becomes a bestselling book and then later converted into a blockbuster movie. Whereas books like American Purgatorio goes unnoticed despite having amazing plotline and being a masterpiece in itself.
Studies show, that the language used in graphic content books are becoming more popular and has become the selling point of the books. Sometimes we see there is no actual story in the book other than filled with graphics content.
Authors have the power of pen. Which means they reach out to their readers more than any other medium. It gives them power to spread the positive knowledge. So by conceptualizing subjects like Rape, BDSM, Pain and and Pleasure should be treated in more sensitive manner and should give out more positive exposer rather than giving po*nographic description. They should be written aesthetically according to the story and shouldn't be the hindrance to the plotline.
We feel that somehow the creativity and clean plots that can intrigue readers just by the amazing simple narration is somewhere missing.
