A policeman was killed. Why aren't there any black dots for this? Why isn't a there candle march for a public hanging of the people who did this?
They are taught their whole lives to take orders from senior officers. It was not his decision to be part of lathicharge. And that's no reason for taking a life. He too would not be able to eat from now on, and his marriage is ruined far more severely.
It's not that I am saying that all of this phenomenon going on is stupidity or for no good. It's good to see the public knowing their rights and promoting the security of the people. But in order to get themselves heard, why is it that people lose their 'Common Sense' and start doing the most absurd things?
Eg - Candle Marches and Unified Photos on Social Media : You people take the street with candles in your hands. Good cause. A very good example of unity. But what result does that produce? In fourth grade, it is taught : Efficiency = Output/Input. Efficiency of a candle march is nearly zero. This is no Bollywood movie that seeing hundreds of people carrying candles in their hands will melt the hearts of potential criminals. A person is not a criminal until he commits a crime, and a man doesn't frame a calendar in his head for when he's going to commit the crime. And when he's in his crime-phase, his adrenaline driven head won't be remembering all those marches on the street and all those photos he saw on the internet. All he'd have with him him is the hard-coded knowledge in his brain.
Teaching a person to treat women with respect is a growing difficulty these days, seeing that the society is reaching a pace where men and women are treated as equals. As this equality rises, the 'preferential treatment' will decline. It was once seen in the case of blacks vs whites. It will again be seen in the case of women vs men. So spreading messages like - 'Teach them to treat women with respect' is not going to stay effective for long. What's going to be effective are permanents like 'You don't have the right to destroy and take other's lives', or 'Few seconds of orgasm isn't worth destroying her entire life. Better hire a prostitute' Yeah, harsh but better teaching than 'I pledge to protest against this system'.
But the best method is religion. Parents 'please' stop telling your children about atheism. Make them follow a religion. Teach them about it hard. Tell them the basics of that religion, about god, about doomsday, etc. Although myself an atheist, I believe Religion is one of the best ways to promote humanity. If someone has the mindset, he'll discover it himself. But he should never be told about it. At least not in young days.
Here's an old-age quote - 'United we stand, divided we fall'. I feel it's kind of incomplete. There's no good in standing united unless you act. If you can act, then standing united serves it purpose. If not, get your ass back on that couch, you aren't helping by part of the group. In 2006, SBI Officers went on a strike over the pension issue. They won the battle. How? They acted. They stopped going to work. Economy started to suffer, ATMs started to run out of cash, banks stopped functioning properly, the government had no choice. Today, there is no big coverage of Anna Hazare on lokpal bill. It's because this is not effecting the regular functioning of the system in any manner. He fasts, but that doesn't affect anyone else.
What good does this changing-profile-pictures, candle marches, mass gatherings do? Nothing. Whom do they affect? No-one. This is not something that happens overnight.
Castrating the rapists, killing the murderers, putting bombs inside terrorists' bellies will not solve the world's problems. And yes, this statement also points that there are far worse crimes than this rape, which people are starting to forget. This is not the end of the world. Nor was 9/11.
Want to stop these things from happening? Make sure to educate people. Tell people that if you see someone in trouble, try to help them, instead of gathering a crowd and watching the melodrama.
