Chapter - 3

The moment she had heard the words "I can't stay away from you" from his mouth, Pallavi had decided how she will take revenge from him. She had been confused and angry at him but never felt an urge to hurt him the way he did until now. When he selfishly asked her to put efforts in their marriage was when she realised he will never let her go. Even after knowing the fact that she wasn't happy. When everything you know and love is taken away from you harshly and all you can think of is anger, hatred and revenge, nothing and nobody can save you. Pallavi too felt as if revenge was all that was left of her.

Raghav Rao had come into her life like a storm. She recalled when he first came to the Deshmukh house asking for her hand in marriage. Pallavi was told to not leave her room till Raghav left and she had no idea what he was doing there at her house. She remembered glancing at him before she headed upstairs to her room and him smiling at her.

Flashback:

"Young man you must have some nerve showing up here and asking for my daughter-in-law's hand in marriage." Vijay Dekhmukh spoke up as if agitated by the fact. He had never really liked Pallavi but he dearly loved his son Mandaar and couldn't oppose when he wished to marry her. Soon he warmed up to Pallavi after Mandaar's death when she chose to stay with them. He acted like a father figure for her which was not admired by his own daughter Amruta. Infact she hated Pallavi, even her mother-in-law was cold to her.

"Raghav Beta, why do you want to marry a widow. There's a plenty of other girl for you" Sharda spoke up as if hinting towards Amruta to charm him. It was clear by his expensive outfit and ride that he was loaded and Sharda was surprised he wanted to marry someone like Pallavi. She would do anything to prevent him from marrying Pallavi, she was determined.

"No Aai, if he wants to marry Pallavi then we shouldn't be the one's to decide. Ask Pallavi, I know she will agree. After all she has been so lonely after Dada's death." Amruta too interfered thinking if he marries Pallavi it will be a good riddance for her and her father would stop telling her to be more like Pallavi. Amruta was smart enough to understand her mother's intentions of marrying her to Raghav instead but she was a loyal girlfriend so never showed interest in any other guy, let alone the don of Hyderabad.

Vijay realised Amruta was right. Pallavi had indeed been lonely. At times he would see her crying alone at night yet couldn't say anything to her. Maybe it was a presence of a loved one she really needed. Still, his ego didn't allow him to marry off his daughter in law to some guy who randomly showed up at his house. She was the pride of their house, she was their daughter in law.

Raghav was surprised by the reactions of all three people. Surprisingly it was Vijay Deshmukh who he thought was genuinely concerned for Pallavi. He had to convince him and he had to do it now before he changed his mind. Vijay Deshmukh was very short tempered, his men had told him. Once he makes a decision, he doesn't change it through the end, whether right or wrong he sticks by it. "Amruta, I hear you want to go to London to study Fashion?" Raghav asked her. All eyes were on him. Even though surprised Amruta was keen to spill her admiration for fashion and London. "... Yes but we aren't financially doing that well so..."

"What if I pay for it?"Raghav spoke. One thing was clear to him, However strong and adamant Vijay Deshmukh may seem, his children were his weakness. He couldn't ever say no to them. Just like he had allowed Mandaar to marry Pallavi, he was sure he would allow Amruta to pursue her dream. "I'll pay for all your expenses. College fee, living, food. What say?" He asked enthusiastically.

Vijay was smart enough to understand Raghav's intentions and glared at his daughter as if challenging her to say yes. When Amruta didn't say anything Raghav spoke again, "and if you want I can also arrange for your parents to be with you?"

Within moments he saw Sharda walking upto Vijay and whispering something into his ear, following which all three of them went inside the privacy of their room citing they had to discuss something. Vijay was adamant to not let Raghav negotiate anything in order to marry Pallavi. He didn't have such low esteem that he would practically sell off Pallavi to him so that his own daughter can live happily but was convinced otherwise by his wife. "Just let me negotiate with him" Sharda spoke. It was a golden opportunity for her to milk the cow.

"So Raghav, what else are you willing to do?" Sharda spoke.

"Whatever is required!" He replied in a business-man tone.

"How about all the things you just said and an additional 5 crore rupees and you can marry Pallavi right away?" She stated her terms. Vijay had lost yet another time, Raghav could see that he was not proud of what he was doing yet he didn't speak anything too. "Fine!" Raghav said and narrowed his eyes at them as if 5 crore was nothing. It was actually nothing, compared to her.

"I have one condition!" Vijay finally spoke up. Raghav looked at him anxiously "Pallavi must not know about these...conditions." Vijay didn't know who Raghav Rao was, neither was he going to bother knowing about him because it would just make him feel more guilty. From the look he had on his face he sure didn't seem like a good man. He didn't know why Raghav wanted to marry Pallavi or how her life would be with him, he just wanted her to know he will be there for her in the future and that will only be possible of she does not know about this 'deal'.

"Alright! I want to marry her tomorrow!" He stated his end of the bargain. "But..." Sharda was about to interrupt. "Make it happen!" He said while handing them a signed off check.

----------

Now:

Pallavi walked down the stair graciously wearing her pink anarkali suit, she had worn something colourful after a really long time. When she was given freedom to chose from her own wardrobe she was quite confused yet chose the simple pink suit. She had worn matching jhumkas which looked so elegant with her outfit. Raghav was sitting on the breakfast table eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of his new bride before he left for work. The wait was completely worth it when he saw her walk down and sit beside him. "Good morning" she wished as softly as a humming bird before pulling a chair beside him. "A good morning indeed" he wished bringing a smile on her face.

He was already dressed up in his suit as usual. "Pallavi.." he said while munching on his toast, "I'm going to my office today. I have some important work to wrap up before we leave." He informed. "Where are we going?" Pallavi curiously looked at him. "Our honeymoon" He answered and got up ready to leave. He wasn't looking for any physical proximity from her side but he was sure that indulging in an adventurous activity outside of their home and exploring a new place together would at least bring them as close to friends and build a much needed emotional pillar for their relationship. "Be ready. Pack your things I'll be back by 2" Pallavi was somewhat excited to go on their honeymoon. The idea of travelling seemed appealing to her, even if it was with Raghav. She had always liked to travel, in her college days she was very fond of trekking and actively went to all the trips introduced.

"Oh! I forgot something!" He turned around half way and came back. She was till sitting in the same seat eating her food when he kissed her on the forehead. "Bye" he said and rushed out. Pallavi was surprised by his sudden action yet didn't feel awkward. It was then that she realised she had forgotten to ask him where they were going.

Pallavi never bothered to ask him the destination nor the duration of their 'honeymoon' and just packed her most favourite sarees and a few nightgowns. She was surprised when Raghav said they were late for boarding their plane yet they reached on time thanks to his driving skills. She had initially thought that they might be going somewhere local, they were going to Paris. She could have never imagined being in Paris even in her dreams. Raghav proved to be a great moral support when she was afraid of stepping on the plane. He held her hand and gave her assurance that they will be safe, soon her fear subsided when she got lost in admiring the beauty of the city outside the window whereas Raghav was lost admiring her. Pallavi soon dozed off and unknowingly her tilted on Raghav's shoulder. He traced her face with his forefinger and tucked away a stay strand of hair from her face. She looked so calm and ethereal just like the first time he had met her.

Flashback :

It was yet another weekend and he was at his Orphanage, disguised as Ramaswamy, distributing gifts to the children when she walked in. She was walking so timidly holding on to her purse with her one hand and a huge tiffin box in the other while her hair tied into a bun. She appeared so mature by her appearance yet she looked so young from her face. Raghav didn't know why but he found himself observing her with dedication. As soon as she stepped closer all the kids rushed to her and their faces started glowing as if reflecting her light. For a moment he stood still and observed her. She really did seem like a ball of joy, "Pallavi didi!" One of the kids called her out.

'Pallavi!' He hummed 'Such a nice name'. She had brought laddus for the kids at the orphanage. He for some reason could not take his eyes off her and kept glancing at her while she fed some of the kids. She smiled yet she was not happy. Her eyes bore tiredness as if she hadn't slept nicely in a long time, as if she had been crying herself to sleep. He noticed she was wearing a saree, the colour was dull yet she effortlessly looked pretty in it. He didn't know how and when he subconsciously walked upto her. She was too engrossed in feeding the kids that she didn't notice him staring at her. When he saw that the sun was bothering her, he unknowingly angled himself and stood between her and the sun, that was when she had looked at him. Her gaze, oh so heavenly that his heart skipped a beat. Her lips which were curved into a smile were now twisted in a simple 'o'. Her face was illuminating brighter than the sun he was protecting her from. He had believed that the colour of love was red. Burning red. Not because it depicted burning passion but also because it signified destruction. But it was golden white, he realised. Like daylight. Like her.
