I'd say that with time, things are changing. Even families are okay to look for prospects from different backgrounds for their children. But this is not the situation in the rural areas yet. Even widow remarriage like you rightly pointed out is a good concept shown, again not applicable yet in the rural set up.

Arre Haan. I used to watch yhm, but that's a sham in the name of cross cultural set up i feel. Fake south Indian dikhawa. None of the characters were actually from the south and their imitation was so artificial. So that didn't even strike for being a different concept, cause wasn't executed well.

And yes, here both respect each other's culture. Till now no mockery or insults. Bravo!

I don't live in India, but the stigma of marrying outside your region is still prevalent in my circle, albeit not to a huge extent. It's so refreshing to see an intercultural marriage without one having to conform to the other. The last time I saw this in a show was Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, and that was handled very well. Both cultures were given their fair share of screen time and the stereotypes were dealt with an appropriate dose of humour.

I also adore Raghav for being such a progressive man and portraying that with so much ease. He doesn't yap about his morals and ethics and what he stands for or believes in. He just does what he needs to do and owns up to it. Annddd, perhaps for the first time in ITV history (as far as my ITV knowledge takes me), a male lead is not anti-God. He practices his faith how he's best able to and doesn't need to get lectured about being hopeless and faithless by his wife or mom. In fact, I even love that Pallavi doesn't berate him for drinking. Sure she doesn't want him to go overboard and damage his organs every night, but I love that she doesn't consider his social drinking a blasphemous habit.

A welcome change indeed! 👏

Pallavi did try to stop him from going overboard, but apart from that was there a scene of raghav drinking otherwise?

And yes, they both have respect for each other's practice. If pallu wanted she could have by now made so much fun of his wrong Hindi, but she never does. And i like that while She learns of her husband's lack of knowledge of Hindi songs and movies, she is stunned but she has already accepted him for who he is. So all other things are trivial now.

He said to not misunderstand him. That it was his mom who told him thay you are unhappy here and that you will be happy if I let you go. Otherwise I had no intention to leave you.

I remember this from my memory.

Agree. It is such a breath of fresh air, to see, the leads and actors are taken as per their character needs. Helps in the authenticity, as, unlike is movies, serials cannot keep having constantly to correct the way it is spoken; accents, phrases etc.

I am sure the actors chip in with dialogues here and there.

MHRW is wonderful in many ways. The widow re-marriage all of you highlighted already, is handled without drama. No one mentioned once, as though it was a big thing done, or wasnt looked down upon. It was just organic, natural.

And agree completely on, not pulling each other down, for reasons like a language being spoken etc.

One of the main reasons I started to watch this show was because of the whole Telugu actor playing a lead role.

Because in Hindi serial even if they show a south Indian character like YHM they will have a north Indian playing it. I feel the authenticity goes away. And they end up becoming typical steoreotyped characters.

I like the point raised by you. Personally I have lived in Hyderabad for 5 years. After spending my majority childhood in North. Living there helped me understand the culture so much better and removed so many stereotypes in my mind.

The same way Tvs and movies are a huge influence in our society so for ppl who are not living in a different region but get to observe it can help remove many notions and as you pointed out can also make people be more open to marry outside their region.

Good post agree with you 👍🏼

I haven't come across a show prior to this where one of the main leads is a South Indian, paired against a Hindi speaking lead. I might be wrong, since I am not aware of any other show with this concept.

I feel this is a huge leap for itv especially Hindi serials which is otherwise filled with the stereotypical family backgrounds.

When I first saw an epi (a late learner of this show), i was honestly shocked to see that telugu is being spoken in the show, and much later I realised that the hero is actually a Telugu star! So unique and a first for me. I'm a Punjabi from a corner of South India myself and well acquainted with the languages and cultures of the south. So being aware of both the cultural influences, I was surprised to see the taste of different cultures in one show. In a Hindi show.

IMO, this honestly will give a boost to women getting into a wedlock, to remove their inhibitions, see above their own regions and accept someone with a different cultural bg. This show is a perfect example that your special someone might not be from the same region, community, does not speak the same language and you can still be happy and fall in love with them.

I feel this show is setting good examples that way. Acceptance, adjustment and none of it being based on the language of the other.

That said yeh raghav Rao meri Hindi zaroor kharab karke chodega. In Raghav Rao's words "yeh Raghav rao MERA hindi zaroor karab karke choda!" ahahah

P.s. Post is meant in a positive note. Our country is rich for its diversity and I'm proud of that. Accordingly, i hope the post is taken in a good light.

The first thing which attracted me about this show was the ML is a Telugu. We have never seen an authentic south indian representation in our ITV shows till now!! The representation we see is always a caricature of south india which is downright insulting!! But this show is authentic to the core about its Telugu culture representation and the ML authentically speak Telugu and Hyderabadi Hindi and not to mention the show has such south indian flavor mixed in it with full on south style romance and fight scenes!! The opening fight sequence of Raghav is full on south style dhulai of villains with swag and the ML swag is also like a south hero!! That is the reason Sai Ketan Rao has gotten so famous because people are liking authentic representation of south culture and south hero wala swag!! Also another thing no show till now had casted Marathi characters with authentic marathi actors till now and is showing marathi festivals and culture so beautifully we need to understand that the marathi culture is very different from the north indian one and many times ITV shows mix up marathi culture with north indian one!! Marathi culture I say more similar to that of south indian one as Maharashtra is a deccan state like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana!! Not to mention even shows with marathi characters there is little to no marathi dialogues but this show also had dialogues in marathi and it is like telugu such a sweet language and it is good to hear regional languages in ITV that to from authentic regional actors rather than poor north indian imitation of regional languages!! This show portrayed widow remarriage just like any other normal marriage and a widow girl's life just like any other normal unmarried girl no white saree drama and so realistically showed how a widowed girl can normally fall in love and getting married just like these days normally widowed or divorced girls marry again normally or fall in love and last but not least how normal and realistically the show is showing the married life of a couple with nok jhoks that real life couples do!! This show is one of a kind!! ❤️
