Jaya,
"Welcome back to the forum - it wasn't the same without you. It is interesting to have so many more fans on the forum (good for the show).
I am so surprised and disappointed that the show is not doing well in the ratings in India. I really hope it doesn't get cancelled.
I am really enjoying the show so much. Jaya, your analysis are spot on (almost, ha ha), so there isn't much for me to add. However, I must say that the Aditya and Priya relationship still doesn't connect with me most times. I know it has to move fast for the next step in everyone's lives. Some scenes in the last 2 weeks have been very cute but most times his behaviour is just over the top for me.

Other relationships, as they are being developed/revealed are very impressive - the characters are very multidemensional (can't say the same about their wardrobe or makeup). I can't say I've had a visceral reaction or dislike for Brahmanand that others appear to be having - I find him interesting and I really hope the writers don't make him an all evil character but keep him well rounded.

I do find a couple of holes that you haven't mentioned.
1. Sweety - W*F. She's a totally wasted character so far. She hasn't had many interactions with anyone. She's been shown as spoiled child. I wonder does she live in the house, does her father ever speak to her directly? Does she go to school?....
2. Tara - why are all the pictures of her in the house as a little baby? I was sure she was dead since no one else (her mausi - Devyani, or Aditya or anyone other than her parents) ever ask about her, even to say how is she?

Well a few 'random thoughts' of mine.

S

p.s. I completly agree about the conversation b/w Devyani and Bauji - my favourate scene this week.

Thanks Jaya, Manal.. I'll try to be regular here, now that I'm watching this show regularly.

Manal, my name is Shreya. 😊
I think the liplock coming on the way will be the promise Aditya took from Priya. πŸ˜‰

Jaya- Yea true.. Aditya's reactions will be worth a watch. He doesn't have slightest idea that the dad he thinks of as a COOL person, is not so cool. 😳

Uttara-Rishabh.. okay so their story is still stuck over there.πŸ˜† I think once she learns about the deal, she might herself go for a night for the sake of money without Rishabh's consent and then we might see a really furious Rishabh later. If you guys have seen the Rani Mukherjee starrer movie 'Mehndi', the story was similar along these lines... Would love if they take an unexpected twist route. πŸ˜ƒ

Okay I'll write my thoughts about Friday's episode ( 10th December)

SSP met some other girl instead of Priya! And he gets a tranfer to Delhi. So he'll be missing in action till the function and maybe we get a dhamaka on the shaadi day! 😈

The highlight of the episode was Vidya and her shaadi preps list! πŸ˜†πŸ€£ She's really cute!!! And Gaurav teaching her English will be helluva fun to watch... though frustration for him! πŸ˜› I'm seeing him empathizing with her innocence and that's a change in him. 😳

Imli and her stupid ideas πŸ€ͺ

A nice episode. Loved the Vidya-Gaurav scenes.

Prediction: I think Priya refuses to marry so soon after seeing her dad all hyped up. 15 days is way too soon anyways. I mean we know Adi is a good boy but if it was the other way round, things could have been scarier!

@Jaya, Sherry and others - Hello!

It's been a while since I posted here and probably wont post much this month as I too will be travelling to India.

This week solidified for me how much I love this show. I have limited experience watching India soaps and during that time I have seen shows that seem to focus on one story or one couple. As soon as that story is over or the couple is together the CVs (creative team or writers) struggle to continue with the show and sometimes really botch it. Here they are developing all their characters, even Imily as the silly servant of the house. If they continue in this fashion they have years and years worth of material.

I will now talk about some of the stories or character/relationships that resonated with me this week:

Gaurav - Really liked how they revealed more about him this week. His relationship with his father. We see the contrast in the way Bramanand treats his boys and the awkwardness between him and his father. I loved how he is shown to be a sculptor/artist at heart who became a boxer to win his father's love. Fabulous.

Gaurav/Vidhya - loved how Gaurav opens up to Vidhya, the chats in the bedroom. Gaurav wanting to teach Vidhya. How she reacts to his attention, her attraction for him. All great stuff. They don't spend too much time on these two but it is enough to move the story along.

Gaurav/Aditya - love how Gaurav treats Aditya like an older indulgent brother who is watching his brother make a fool of himself over a girl. The little interaction between them when Gaurav is going over to see Priya's family was brilliant. Say hi to the "chhori" and will hi be enough? loved it!

Chori/Lugai - at the beginning I used to cringe every time I heard Priya referred to as the Chhori or my lugai. I found that language to be too crude for educated people to use but that too is growing on me.

Gaurav/Bramanand - they developed this relationships this week as well. We see how uncomfortable and disappointed each is with the other. Excellent!

Devyani/Dadaji - this relationship is very interesting and enough has been said about it so I don't need to... I agree with it all.

Bramanand - I know that he makes everyone very angry and uncomfortable but I like how the layers of his depravity are being revealed. From the bribery scene in his office to bedroom scene with the guy's wife to asking for "attention" from his own wife. Then his scenes with his family, Priya's, pundit - all go to show his narcissistic nature. All brilliant piece of work. Only scene that didn't work for me was the bedroom one with the girl. The camera angles and the position of her head in different camera shots was very sloppy editing. It distracted from what scene was supposed to do.

Priya and her father - excellent scene between them having the heart to heart father daughter or was it mother daughter conversation. Wonderful.

Priya / Aditya - I know it is all OTT..but I love the romance of it all. I think someone wrote earlier that there is some very serious heavy duty stuff coming for them so they are trying to fit all the fun and romance in now before they get to that. I enjoyed the "filmyness" of it.

@Shreya - I believe you compared Aditya to MKS very interesting. Because of their differences I would have never gone there but very insightful comparison. The writers have weeks and months of story on how Aditya comes to term with everything he believed in unravel in front of his eyes!

I could go on and on but will stop now.

December 9, 2010 - Thursday

Sorry for the delay in all of this past week's takes guys! Am on vacation and my days/evenings have been rather unpredictable. But...the good news is, I am watching the episodes live and contributing to the TRPs. 😊

Alright...lets get right to it. After the powerful episode on Wednesday, this was a filler episode so I am going to keep it simple.

Highlights:

  • The episode started with Brahmanand coercing Devyani in to sleeping with him. Devyani's frozen expression as Brahmanand reached across her to switch the lights off reflects perfectly why such forced sex, even by a spouse, is considered an act of aggression and violence...a form of physical abuse.
  • In contrast, Uttara and Rishabh are relaxing in bed till Uttara's worry about their money situation gets Rishabh worked up. He does manage to cool down long enough to lie to her that the loan from Rastogi came through. Have to say, I hold my breath every time a Rishabh - Uttara scene is shown as I am waiting for the trigger that will lead to the next escalation in the physical abuse.
  • Back at the Jhaakar house, Aditya works his charm on the Pandit to get him to suggest that the marriage be held in two weeks. The highlight of this scene, for me, was the dynamics between Gaurav & Brahmanand. I understand the root cause of their issues...but...why is it so uncomfortable between them all the time and in every single one of their interactions? Got to admit...I am struggling with that!
  • As Aditya leaves to give his exams, Brahmanand goes to visit the Pradhans at the Jhaakar guest house. Predictably, he does not meet Priya but this was still a very well done scene. It perfectly captured Mr. Pradhan's discomfort at Brahmanand's overbearing way of over-riding any of their objections to the hurried wedding planning. As a sister who has organized several weddings in the family, I have personal experience of the usual bride-groom family tensions as it relates to wedding planning. If the wedding does happen, I hope the screenplay captures this slice-of-life type of dynamic.
  • The episode finally closed with Priya surprising Aditya at his college to wish him prior to the exams. I still feel this relationship is moving way to fast...but...if I accept that for what it is, it was nice to see Priya slowly revealing what she was probably like before the horrific molestation.
Overall:

Good filler episode.

Lol, Manal, ya he did look hot..πŸ˜† but cant make myself to drool over him.. dunno why?! He's the weakest man in my mind.. cuz nothing shows your weakness than abusing a lady physically. 😑

Jaya- Awesome take!! πŸ‘πŸΌ I agree with Adiya story going in a speed.. and their story is something I also find to be a bit cliched.. I mean she revealing her past through letter and he not reading it.. reminds me of 90s' Bwood movies. πŸ˜› But on a whole, would like to be surprised with how their track progresses.

lovtv- Hey dear! Thank you! πŸ€— Even I'd cringe when he'd call her 'chori'.. But now, I'm the one who calls my friend by that name since she loves Aditya! πŸ˜† And oh yes, I also find Priya and her dad scenes very realistic and heart-touching. He's one perfect dad! πŸ˜‰

Loved your take on the story and characterization. Would love to read your episodic analysis too! 😊😳

Hey Insom-mia...good to see you back? Do I call you S? πŸ˜†

Could not agree more...I keep reminding myself that the story will take off after the Priya - Aditya wedding hence the sprint they are running with this story track.

Got to say, I don't feel the intense dislike either. Maybe the relationship Brahmanand shares with Aditya which is in such sharp contrast to the majority of the other relationships in his life makes him more interesting and multi-dimensional compared to the traditional soap villain. I love that aspect of this series...nobody is perfect...everybody seems to have shades to their personality.

You got me...I have not thought of either Sweety or Imli or Jaggi other than to find Imli mildly annoying at times and hating her outfits. πŸ˜†

I agree with you completely about Sweety. Outside of some brief conversations with Aditya, she has not been given any scope in the screenplay. Same thing with Imli. In complete contrast to how well-sketched all the main characters are, these two in particular appear very uni-dimensional...almost caricature-ish!

Keep coming back...love your perspective!
