December 8, 2010 - Wednesday
After watching Tuesday's episode, I was very anxious to watch this one and I have to say it did not let me down. So...let's get right to it.
Highlights:
Babuji - Devyani:
The episode started where Tuesday ended with Babuji wondering if Priya was right for their family.
Can I stop and become a total fan girl for a second? Oh my god...what a sequence...what dialogs! Simply outstanding! I do find it a tad bit convenient to the upcoming post-marriage story arc to have Babuji be so perceptive about Priya in one short interaction. But that aside, I loved the screenplay for this part of the episode.
Alright...now that I got that out...let me slow down long enough to point out how apt the contrasts that Babuji drew were. I have said many times before how this series is all about the contrasts. Here we have Devyani who upholds her Maryaada by hiding the truth in marked contrast to Priya who's Maryaada starts with revealing and facing the truth. Devyani's maintains her Maryaada by keeping silent while Priya' does so by speaking out.
The screenplay then kept Devyani perfectly in character as she tries to convince Babuji that Priya will do what it takes to protect the Jhaakars who will be her family too after the wedding to Aditya. Babuji's response in turn about how Devyani and Priya differ in how to protect the family was quite simply...spot on! Finally, I liked how the writers had Babuji not push the conversation but instead let Devyani walk away after his pointed insights. His own self-thoughts about Priya being perfect for their family as she would either be the key that opened Devyani's mouth or speak out herself provides a clue to the future!
The Pradhans/Aditya and The Jhaakars
After the intensity of the first scene, the next few on the Pradhans, Aditya/Priya and Imli/Vidya provided the right amount of light-hearted appeal to balance the episode. Several nice touches here...Priya sharing the details of her day, Aditya showing up, Mr. Pradhan seeing him, IVidya trying to find Aditya and more...all well done!
Gaurav - Vidya
Have I ever mentioned how much I love this story track, this couple's characterization and their relationship groW*H? Well...if you have not read that before...I do.
This was another well done interchange between the two. From Gaurav's subtly making Vidya share what was bothering her to his providing her reasurance to Vidya turning the tables on him to Gaurav finally opening up...it was one smooth waltz. I loved how Vidya used Gaurav's insight that her family background explained her simplicity to ask if his own was the cause for his quiet brooding personality.
Vidya's own guileless nature finally provides this relationship its first pivot point...Gaurav's sharing of his true thoughts. He acknowledges that his family and the environment at home have made him who he is. He expresses how he was never able to be the oldest son of Brahmanand's dreams.
This conversation provided such insight in to why Brahmanand's relationships with his sons is such a study in contrasts. It also showed what character consistency is all about. Gaurav's explanation about Brahmanand was in line with how the writers have sketched and shown all of these characters (Brahmanand, Gaurav & Aditya) so far. I could visualize the Gaurav and Aditya of today as kids and see Brahmanand being the demanding father who had little patience for Gaurav's interests. Now...it remains to be seen how much farther this heart-to-heart will go. I for one, cannot wait to find out!
Overall:
Outstanding episode. ⭐️
Loved:
- The Storytelling style that shifted effortlessly from the intense to the light-hearted and back to the more deep conversation scenes
- The conversation between the Pradhans themselves and later with Aditya. Who does not have parents tell them the not-so-obvious details from their past...here Priya's father telling Chinu about his own wooing glory days was a nice touch.
- The episodic continuity being maintained even in the little details...Vidya said she would make hot chocolate for Aditya during Tuesday's episode and in this one, she went to give him that.
